Today in my intermediate Spanish class we were talking about parties and entertainment, and my students learned the word aguafiestas (party pooper)
One of them said: Is it agua (water) because it’s like they pee on the party?
Honestly… still more hygienic than saying someone poops on the party.
I was in the job market previous year here, so happy to try to help! Here people use a lot MLA job list or Chronicle of Higher Education. I remeber that @jenniferisasi.bsky.social recommended me another page for DH jobs, but I totally forget which one it was
For the US #DigitalHumanities crowd: how does one go about looking for DH/DH-adjacent jobs? I live and work in Germany and know all the job boards and mailing lists to subscribe to here. But what about for the US scene? Specifically the Pacific North-West? Appreciate whatever help you can offer. 🙏
Part of me still feels uneasy for not using ArcGIS when my institution really wants me too. However, Institutionally, things shift. Technologies change. The future feels uncertain in many ways.
And maybe that’s why I want full control over my data, my projects, and my creative digital space
Now I’m still committed to using GitHub and Story MapJS for #NailsandNodes
But I keep asking myself:
Should I let go of my insistence on open access?
Should I stop “fighting” with GitHub and institutional infrastructures?
What does sustainability really mean in digital work?
Preparing for this session has made me reflect on my own choices.
I chose StoryMapJS for the virtual map of String Data Art because I deeply believe in open access — even though I have access to ArcGIS through CNU. For me, tool selection is never neutral. It’s methodological, but also ethical.
Next week we have the first session of the 5X5 StoryMaps Lab We’ll focus on initial ideas, project possibilities, and the digital tools we might use to bring them to life.
This is the takeoff moment.

I wrote up the talk I gave at CESTA a couple weeks ago, on how we're overdue on changing the narrative about what digital humanities prepares students for. It's not fallback jobs in tech, it's getting involved in your community in moments of crisis. And craft helps build those skills. #DHmakes

Could you imagine a #DHMakes letter club? Like we send each others stickers of our Dhtries/DhMakes things or small prints. I have been always a huge fan of old fashion lettering hahaha
The main idea of the stickers was to give them as presents in conferences or send to colleges! Your talk previous week gave me the idea that it would be cool!

Yes! Yesterday we were sharing some ongoing project and he did this map with his students too. During the process he discovered that we had at CNU our own comic burning 🤣🤣🤣

Next week: part of the Digital Humanist's Helpdesk series, this hour-long workshop with @emilyfbrooks.bsky.social introduces the #DHMakes movement, combining digital humanities with arts and crafts. We will make cool things like zines, bookmarks, & more. Open to all, no previous experience required!
In the coming weeks, I’ll be choosing the repository structure that fits best and starting the serious planning phase for #NailsAndNodes
