A quasar or supernova in the Fourier space.
While working on these structures, I encountered disorder, non-merohedric and pseudo-merohedric twins, cases where the unit cellβs metric symmetry exceeds that of the crystal, and other crystallographic complications. It has been a fascinating and rewarding experience! #research
Most of these structures were collected at room temperature on a Gemini S diffractometer (@rigakuoxfordxrd.bsky.social) assembled in 2007. The dataset comprises mainly coordination compounds with organic ligands, as well as various organic molecules, including natural product derivatives.
Milestone: my 200th deposited crystal structure is now in the CCDC @ccdc.cam.ac.uk (first one in 2012 CCDC 870175, latest today CCDC 2483173). Over the past 13 years, the database has almost tripled in size - adding 1.6 million entries! π§΅π

I have sent ScienceDirect the following questions and asked them to take down their harmful AI feature. Letβs see what they answer.

"In 2019, at the ECM in Vienna [...] a crystallographer in the audience improvised a concise speech thanking George for the contribution in his programs, which was unanimously backed by a standing ovation."
I was present there and vividly remember this moment.
