5 years ago I decided to teach myself C++ so I could attempt making my own game.

After 5 long years of late nights and weekends, I’m proud to finally announce, I have a working pause screen.

Ok Julian but I haven’t seen a spider break out in a cold sweat and slap itself in the face and vomit because a person touched it.

Little Nightmares 3 co-op for Halloween month is pretty perfect tbh.

💯 It’s insane that in one generation we went from baked lighting and a couple of runtime spotlights (if you’re lucky) to real time GI with essentially unlimited shadow casting light sources.

But if I ever have to babysit a bake until 4am again I will step into traffic.

The TV series wasn’t the worst thing ever created either.

Silksong has made me realise I’m now, sadly, too old for some games.

I’m surprised YouTube will play an uninterrupted 30 seconds of ads without putting ads in it.

The last true masterpiece in the genre before Hollow Knight was arguably Ori, and it’s those inspirations that give us games like Hollow Knight. I think ultimately, while there are failures, inspiration fuels magic.

I’m not sure that’s a bad thing? Team Cherry captured lightning in a bottle, and that’s not something you can manufacture, but that doesn’t invalidate the existence of good games that don’t reach that pinnacle. People are inspired by all kinds of things. A masterpiece is a good place to start.

Tbf metroidvanias are on a pretty consistent release schedule. It’s my fav genre and I think there’s been at least one solid title every year-ish for a while. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was fantastically good, but unfortunately undersold.

Still refreshing steam / PSN to see which is the first to unfuck their system so we can buy it 💀

Isometric action puzzle games will always have an audience, and it’s a starved genre. This looks incredible, can’t wait to get my hands on it!
