"But living inside [Psalm 51]βslowly, verse by verseβwas something else entirely. It stopped feeling familiar once I moved past the one-liners. King David isnβt wrestling abstractly with sin. Heβs been found out. Heβs stopped defending himself."

Preaching connects God's word to God's people gathered. It is a work of pastoral care and a declaration of the Good News. #preaching #CovenantTLC #sermon

β¦ Calvinist theology β perceived as "bulletproof" β having some practical weaknesses and pastoral implications which, though not ubiquitous, were enough to upset me and my wife as parents of a special needs child. I still have consideration for him for being a "moderate" voice within a radical camp.
2008! I've actually heard this very audio/article. This was (as is) a subject of interest for me, and I was a Piper listener back then. By the time he was associating with D W***on, M D***coll, and others with the TGC, I was already veering off of my exploration into Calvinist waters on account of β¦

How we communicate is as important as what we communicate. In teaching about God we praise God. Our doctrine is bound up in doxology.

βYou shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.β John Piper. Wait, actually GOD (Leviticus 19:34)
In 2026 Conservative Christians would have you believe the president is a spiritual leader and John Piper is a woke heretic. Dumbπestπtimeπlineπ
Sometimes βwokenessβ is just reading the Bible with your eyes open
John Piper posted Leviticus 19:34: βThe stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.β

Exactly!!
And in the world of Christian Nationalism, it looks like they've reached the "Farewell John Piper" stage.
(15 years later...the original Farewell RB was on 2/26/2011!)
The freak outs about #JohnPiper show a reality we already knew. That for many, seeing Scripture use the word Stranger, Foreigner, Oppressed, Poor, imprisoned, or hungry, will immediately initiate a response. Because they cant comprehend how God would care about those they do not.
Baptist pastor John Piper becomes a target for daring to quote Leviticus 19:34; fellow Protestants twist themselves into pretzels justifying that 'the stranger who sojourns among you' does not apply to 'those people'. Meanwhile the Pope takes hits for suggesting we should be nice to one another.
You wonder what they'd do to Jesus. Crucify Him?
When John Piper quoted the Bible, some fellow pastors didn't say 'amen.' They said he got it wrong. https://churchleaders.com/news/2214231-john-piper-social-media-immigration.html

In this meditation on the first clause of the Jerusalem Declaration, Stephen Noll reminds us that Anglicans are called to confess the Gospel and evangelize to the world its Good News:
