Intensive salmon farming in Norway is based on a destructive industrial model, supported by the state for major economic reasons. Raised in overcrowded open-sea cages, salmon are subjected to disease, parasites (sea lice), extreme stress and massive mortality. These abuses are well known, documented, and acknowledged by the Norwegian authorities themselves. Journalistic investigations have revealed that sick, injured or non-compliant salmon were exported to Europe, including France, even though they should have been discarded, processed, or destroyed, but certainly not end up on our plates. Even when these fish do not exceed European sanitary thresholds, they are considered unfit under Norwegian regulations, exposing a clear double standard. This system also relies on a major ecological absurdity: to feed carnivorous salmon, the industry uses fishmeal and fish oil produced from the massive harvesting of small wild fish, particularly sardinella in West Africa. These fish are essential both to local diets and to the balance of marine ecosystems, yet they are diverted to fatten salmon destined for European markets. The result is local food insecurity, increased pressure on fish stocks, and global ecological injustice. In short, Norwegian farmed salmon is not a “clean” or sustainable product. It is the outcome of an opaque industrial system, built on animal suffering, the overexploitation of Southern oceans, and the complacency of authorities toward an extremely profitable industry. Behind the polished image of “fjord salmon” lies a production chain that destroys everything in its path. Next time, think about it at Christmas. Maybe a slice of smoked salmon is not worth breaking lives.

The Bessières Turtle Refuge case is not just an associative scandal. It is a failure of the State, and the animals paid the price. 📍 The facts For years, the State knew, saw, inspected, yet allowed the situation to continue despite repeated warnings. There were major space issues, and volunteers did their best. The refuge kept growing. The turtles kept piling up. No structural solution was imposed. No serious support was provided. Then, suddenly, the State struck. Overnight. 🚨 April 2024: brutal intervention Search, closure, placement under judicial administration. But behind this display of authority, there was no operational plan for the animals.
⚠️ And that is where hell began: 🔹 A paralyzed refuge, disorganized staff, not trained to care for several hundred animals 🔹 Animals trapped in a legal and logistical no man’s land 🔹 Care interrupted or severely degraded 🔹 Heating, food, and veterinary follow-up insufficient (or nonexistent!) 🔹 Late, improvised, and deadly transfers The turtles were no longer living beings. They became collateral damage. Rescued from illegal breeding, poaching, and filthy conditions, they were once again torn away from a life that offered them a future.
📌 Responsibility is clear Closing a refuge without an immediate solution, leaving dependent animals waiting for judicial decisions, IS a death sentence. We are talking about turtles that died of hunger and thirst, dehydrated on site due to a lack of water in their pools, stored in refrigerators because of a lack of space! 💥 The truth is uncomfortable The State neither anticipated, nor supported, nor protected. It allowed the situation to deteriorate, then hid behind procedures… 🐢 In Bessières, the turtles were not protected. They were abandoned. How can this be allowed to happen in our country? How can there be such a lack of consideration for these helpless animals?
