I mean my face & body tell me exactly how much time passed π€£π BUT you took this work & ran with it. 6 years later, we owe as much or more to you! You've been fighting the real good fight & building that culture. Thank you for all that you've done for this org & Seattle overall.
And as for me, that work all those years ago may inspire me again here in France. Only time will tell.
Help them keep building the movement beseattle.org/donate/
.....Tenant Law Center, Sciences Po, Folks @ SDCI who saw tenant engagement & power came from movement building. The Seattle Renters Commission who took our research & turned it into policy. There's a ton of folks who built Be:Seattle & that's exactly what I wanted standing in Peloton Cafe in 2016.
In that time, so many wonderful people helped make this org, this movement centered around hope in organizing, better. @katerubin.bsky.social (now the long-time director) @seattleisbeautiful.bsky.social @tiffanimc.bsky.social Kshama Sawant & her staff, all the volunteers, all the friends....
In a little over a month, it will be the 10 year anniversary of the founding of @beseattleorg.bsky.social. It is amazing to see the impact the organization has had on the lives & political cultural landscape of Seattle, even under the radar. Just for fun, here's a photo from a kickoff even in 2016.
Instead of unnecessary roads & highways that will never ever have enough budget for upkeep. Win-win that shit. Keep trees. Ditch cars.
Katie is getting criticism from the right and the left, and people seem to forget that she took office less than 2 months ago. Either "see she's too inexperienced" or "she completely betrayed us." Just chill.
I don't know about DON, but commissions are a way for people to engage w/ the City in a way that doesn't exist in a lot of places. When I was Co-President of the Renters Commission, we researched, advocated for, & won the winter eviction ban & 180 day rent notice. Both have been emulated across WA.
Man that article is written for a very specific person. That's all I can say. Kind of interesting to look through that port hole.
Last night, I saw Blonde Redhead live in Nantes, 15 years after seeing them live in Seattle, and oh boy. They're still so good. Maybe even better than back then. Such amazing ethereal sound. youtu.be/7NvllmNib8Y?...
Since last year, I've been quietly freelancing doing video and podcast editing for a couple US-based/American clients and I'm open to more, wherever you may be located, anywhere in the world.
I spent 2024 focused on embedding into the same work as before. I spent 2025 trying to go for other government & non-profit work. This year, I'm recognizing that my work or career will never be tied to France, but rather it will always be international. So, I'm leaning in.
This year, I have stepped back from my pursuit of a policy-related or adjacent position. Recognizing that my life is different in France than in the US, & while I am freelancing, I have decided to lean more into helping folks use video/audio to tell their stories. Need help? hmu: withinreach.fr
Seriously gotta love how they duped everyone into getting the deep bore highway & surface highway options. Imagine if there was even one extra leader beyond McGinn who had any foresight at all.
So glad the market looks like this now. It's incredible.
Just a note to Seattle, don't let Dan sweet talk you by co-sponsoring this non-Council-generated legislation. Look at the tape. He's a very reluctant supporter of social housing at best. Someone who slower it's progress at worst. I'm suspecting he's looking at his own future here.
Georgi either stays in Seattle or comes to be near family in Nantes. Only choices. π
No it's actually really funny, bc Bruce Harrell would derail any conversation to mention his high school or college football team. He even did this for an agonizingly long period when hosting a delegation from France & you just know they were all questioning their career decisions in that moment.
In Japan, transit passes aren't just for transit. They're replacing cash & competing w/ debit cards. Let me tell you how a system like this in the US or EU could make life simpler & fairer for all people. #urbanism #Japan

When I first visited #Japan in 2023, I was blown away by the idea that I could use a local transit pass to buy almost anything, almost anywhere nationwide.

I think this sort of idea can have huge upsides for many cities/countries. Let me tell you why. youtu.be/8_2S_bXGdLI
Can't remember the last time I put out a video on YouTube but this one has been percolating since 2023. #Japan #urbanism #transit youtu.be/8_2S_bXGdLI
Deserved. Won a continental trophy at 16 & again at 20. Played well against AtlΓ©tico in the CWC. A great Sounder. A great story. Now he gets to play for the club he's loved since he was a kid. Go get it, Obed.
I sense another coordinated work stoppage coming. This time the line will be "call the mayor" instead of "call city council." Still, whenever cops are asked to do anything that resembles work or treating residents like humans, they'll do their best to do the opposite.
"Planned evolution." Way too much corpo jargon included in Sounders public messaging over the past couple years. Talk to your audience like we're normal people please.
But "it was such a great partnership" that "would help drive the growth of soccer in the region." Never trust corporate speak. Anyway, good riddance. I can finally get a jersey refresh. My Hendrix one has seen better days.
9/10 deliveries i receive are by bike. La Poste is ebike. DHL & others arrive by either Urban Arrow or Larry vs. Harry.
