not their forte. So they began ‘inviting’ female researchers (only the ones they liked, but never men) to make the coffee and then partake in it. They also took frequent cigarette breaks in the rare books library. And lied about both the hot plate and the cigarettes every time the fire dept visited!

a moka pot, a bag of coffee, sugar, and some cups, and plugged the hot plate into an outlet in between two shelves of 18th c baptismal records written on onion-skin paper (the kind that disintegrates if you look at it wrong, definitely not a fire hazard…). But also they were old men, kitchen work

North American in Ireland here - I run a decent-sized dehumidifier almost year round. Cost a few hundred euro, and obviously uses electricity too but 100% worth it to keep mould at bay. Helps with drying laundry inside too!
