@defendpublichealth.bsky.social A great collection of articles on the history of measles and vaccination mailchi.mp/historynewsn...
Most Americans disapprove of President Trump's handling of Iran, and a majority sees Iran as either only a minor threat or no threat at all, an NPR/PBS News/Marist poll finds.
What are the chances that Trump puts on a sweater, goes on national TV, and tells us all to lower our thermostats?
Yeah, I totally appreciate the effort! But I think this person is not a serious person

Anyway, I got roped into arguing with an anonymous account, which is my bad. Breaking one of my cardinal rules. It's been a week!
Also, what do you mean, :"The sooner it will be over"??
Like again, it's really easy to come here on this internet and dunk on people and yell at people. But that is not going to solve anything. And apparently the answer here for this person is to just give up and let people die. Thank goodness for public health people who keep on trying.
This is such short-sighted thinking. What about the babies who are too young to get vaccinated? The immunocompromised for whom vaccines are less effective? Breakthrough cases of vaccinated people. Public Health officials cannot give up so easily on trying to educate people as this person can.
Super duper easy to get here on this internet and make fun of people or dunk on them, but now what?
Waste of time? Yet we are all on this planet together, so when they don't get vaccinated, that affects all of us. So, I'll ask again, what do we do?
OK, sure. Now what? We dunk on vaccine-hesitant parents. Now what? Research shows that doesn't change their minds. Now what do we do?
Oh no!!! I hope you and your family are ok!
Small blessing is that all the PH people and historians on this here website are using this guy to do some good old fashion teaching.
It's "Uhgggg, I better organize my garage" season.

Theyβre literally harassing an experienced public health public comms professional for not using strategies that weβve found, over & over again, *do not work*. The temptation to individualize & punish systemic issues, like falling prey to an exploitative βwellnessβ snake oil industry, isnβt usefulβ¦
(Aparna is much more of an expert on this region than I am, I am sure you could read some of her stuff)
This is a case study that is taught in any basic public health class. Vaccines are great!! But we need to tread carefully when it comes to gaining community trust.
Smallpox eradication *is* one of the greatest accomplishments. But you do realize that eradication in the end stages was done through violence in India? Public health workers breaking people's doors down to vaccinate them? The end result was an incredible erosion of trust re: vaccines.

NO - 41%
YES - 38%

And finally, to beat a metaphor to death, in the internet age of "do your own research," it's fantastically easy to bloom into a full fledge anti-vaxxer. And this will only get worse with AI
And if you've ever felt mistreated or misjudged by a nurse or a doctor, it's really easy to let those seeds sprout and grow.
And if you have even a little bit of mistrust of the government (who doesn't?), it's really easy to for snake oil folks to plant some seeds of doubt.
I became a parent way before I went back to school for my PhD. I definitely remember feeling so much anxiety about vaccines. I have so much sympathy for people who all of a sudden are put in charge of another person's life and are getting all sorts of mis/dis information out there.
