Which is why I hate the direction music is going, in that we'll rarely see niche bands get the level of production support required to deliver unique sound to a target audience.

I hope writing doesn't go the same way.

Sorry for the confused conclusion. Only human, I guess.

In that vein, AI music will likely never appeal to me, because at best AI-produced music will just sound like bands I already like.

Not to say that a human-produced band won't sound like a band I like, but they'll typically be distinct in their own style enough to be novel to my ears.

The target audience may be as many people as possible! NYT is certainly valuing that.

Consider music. Pop bands have a larger audience, and many of them I enjoy! My favorite bands, however, produce music *I* like, not necessarily what a broader audience finds appealing.

Readers predominately chose AI, according to the article results.

Not saying that readers are bad at finding human prose or bad for preferring AI, but mostly just saying I do not value broad popularity on it's own.

Writing should write to a target audience, not as many people as possible.

This is not to say that AI should be used in journalism, either. This article asks the reader to choose a preference in writing style. There's nothing in here about accuracy or controlling bias (two things LLMs are notoriously bad at).

But there's one more thing I REALLY want to discuss:

I've read news articles written like Cormac McCarthy! That's bad! But the description for this section was Literary Fiction, not journalism.

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad" kind of stuff here.

Full disclosure: I recognized the first two human passages>

The writing compared to Cormac McCarthy reads like an elementary-school book report. Honestly, it wouldn't be out of place in a news article as it's easier to pick information out of, but it's like reading a dictionary.

I tried to cast aside all bias and choose purely on what read well to me. 5/5 Human.

The AI may be grammatically correct, but also devoid of life and in serious need of an editor.

The last paragraph in the summary is frightening. Thoughts below.

Seriously, can anyone think of a product category where such a high percentage of options sold are so poorly designed to do their primary job as bike racks? Can you imagine if 40% of corkscrews couldn't really open a bottle of wine? Or water fountains where it's basically impossible to get a drink?

With the prevalence of locking your bike to road signs, how much would it cost to install a dozen "Bike Parking" signs at 1-foot or so intervals where you would otherwise install a shitty bike rack?

People Are Calling Meta Ray-Bans "Pervert Glasses" On Bluesky, users quickly embraced the term "pervert glasses" to refer to Meta's Ray Ban smart glasses, following a shocking investigation.

Make it stick.

I can see circumstances where it would be fine to admit that you work at salesforce, but this is in public where you are not surrounded by the kind of people who think it's okay to work at salesforce.

If someone believes their wife should be subservient and people of color/jews are subservient, then it's not logically inconsistent for a racist to marry a person of color.

If you are able to have Claude write 99% of your code, that is because your code is trivial or you simply do not care about the long-term of your project.

It is guaranteed that high usage of these tools will deteriorate one's ability to even judge whether one is deteriorating.
