@markhamillofficial.bsky.social Hey Mark, your support for us rebels here in MN inspired me to create a new Rebel Loon Alliance logo.

Maybe it's just cope, but my longstanding conviction is that what fascists experience as "love" would not be recognizable as such to real humans

Sorry, having some decision paralysis over what deck to do next. Should have that sorted out in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, anyone got any suggestions for dealing with a pillar candle whose wick isn’t centered and is making its lopsidedness worse every time you burn it?

In a lot of ways, I'm really lucky. I work from home. I write and draw books.
I still experience a lot of the same normal creative issues. I'm burned out.
My current project frustrates me.

But a few things in my routine have changed.

Me: Hey, mom. Are the cousins okay? How's grandma? And your sisters?

Me: Oh, good.
Yeah. Okay, that's good.
I'll call you later.

Watching Bob's Burgers on repeat while I work.

My friends check in from time to time.

Text: I got rubber-bulleted by ICE just on my way back from work. Ouch.

Text: Hey I'm gonna observe tomorrow at the protest. I'll text every hour, and if you don't hear from me, please call [number] and give them my identifying information. I'd probably be at the Whipple. Okay?

Text: They knocked on my door, but I'm okay.
I demanded a signed judicial warrant, and they couldn’t provide one, so they left.

I’m worried all the time.

Very little in the news feels encouraging.

And it makes me feel utterly untethered from reality when I have to live like this and just get back to work and draw my stupid little cartoons.
Nothing else feels real or important right now.

But my neighbors are doing such a great job staying engaged and finding needs to meet.

Text: I'm running to Costco and picking up some canned goods to run to the food shelf. Let me know if you want to donate anything.

Text from me: What's your Venmo? I can contribute.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

For what it might be worth, I don’t have any detectable Native ancestry but I have six great-great-great-great-grandparents who were born in Virginia and North Carolina before the States were United and have been citizens since the moment the USA became a nation. Abolish ICE, devolve the DHS.

Today’s deck: the Symdala Tarot by Jennifer Cooper Steidley. I think this is going to be the last one of these for here for a bit; I’ll start working through a new oracle deck tomorrow. This is a great deck for personal meditation, though, and I highly recommend it!

A round tarot card with a blue background, shading from deep royal blue at the edge to teal in the middle. At the center are four ships with red hulls and white sails.surrounding them are four gold cups on white bases, with the bases turned upwards. Between each pair of cups is four gold scepters topped with a lotus shape. In the space between each cup and scepter are the silhouettes of a yellow snake and a blue whale. Outside of the cups is a ring of blue-white waves. Above the waves are four gold crowns with their points shaped like droplets, flanked by red fish, black dolphins, and abstract blue shapes suggesting wind. Around the rim is white text containing the words King of Cups, Pisces, Aquarius, Water, Air, Chokmah in Briah, and Catharsis.

And what the Houston grid fails to represent in fullness is that that small cross offset from the compass is *Downtown*. The entire city center is at an angle to avoid having Buffalo Bayou wander through the middle of it instead of forming the border.

ICE and MAGA really did bet the farm on all of Minneapolis’s white people going β€œoh yes, please take away our disgusting, evil non-white-foreigner neighbors, oh thank you so much.”

it’s beautiful that they’ve been proven incredibly wrong about that - may the rest of the country do the same.

A round tarot card, with a yellow background shading from gold at the edge to lemon in the middle. At the center sits a red rose. From the rose radiate four bouquets of flowers in green, orange, and red, and eight pairs of brown staves with green leaves, grouped with each bouquet flanked by two pairs of staves. Above each bouquet is an arched bridge in gray, surmounted by a pair of tied ribbons in orange-red ombrΓ© and a pair of green grapevines with two clusters of purple grapes each. Around the rim is white text including the words 4 of Wands, Aries, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Fire, Chesed in Atziluth, and Jubilation.

A round tarot card with a cool-black background. At the center are three hearts in shaded red and pink. From the point of each heart radiate three swords in steely blue with red grips. Between the three groups of swords are three hearts shaded from bright red to dark red, each with three wounds. There are grey shaded bone-like shapes that could be either clouds or smoke between the swords in each cluster, and grey clouds above each wounded heart, with blue streams of raindrops between the clouds and the swords. Above each cloud are four small solid red hearts. White text around the rim of the card includes the words 3 of Swords, Libra, Venus, Saturn, Air, Binah in Yetzirah, and Defibrillation.

Step 1: Create street violence

Step 2: Blame enemy group for street violence

Step 3: Brutally oppress enemy group in the name of ending street violence

Step 4: Tell goons to provoke less violence for a sec

Step 5: "You have to give us more power so we can prevent street violence in the future."

Just before Christmas, I got a puppy.
Her name is Minerva, and we call her *Minnie.

I'm still learning how to understand her.

Me: Do you need to go outside? Do you need to go outside, little baby? Do you need to do a poo?
Do you need to do a widdle piddle?

Minnie: Arf!

*I just call her "little baby" most of the time.

I'm also realizing I can't turn off the baby talk now.
Nobody tells you about that.

I got so lucky with my first puppy.
Her wonderful foster parents had her completely house-trained by the time we adopted her, so taking her outside for potty time has been pretty easy. I've got the puppy poopy routine pretty much down, now.

Me, putting on my coat: Let's see... I got the little poopy bags, puppy treats for bribes, jacket, scarf, phone… I think that's everything… Oh yes! And my passport.

I had been carrying around my passport for a while, but I knew it didn't matter. This is wrong. Nobody is required to carry around their papers.

I became a US citizen when I was seven. Since I was born in a refugee camp, I was stateless.
The US is the only nation where I've ever held citizenship. It's the only passport I've ever had, and it still felt important. Protective.

I would hold it in my pocket like a talisman, like it might ward off ghosts or something. But I realized I was holding onto it basically out of superstition.
ICE will pick up anybody.

I know that.

So I tucked my passport away.

And I largely avoid leaving my house.

I live a few blocks just South of George Floyd Square. I was in the neighborhood for that, too.
And all the neighbors came together to protect each other. We're already organized.
We'll do our best to get through this.

Me, to my dog: I hope I can take you for a walk someday soon. Won't that be nice, little baby?

A round tarot card with a red background, crimson at the edge shading to scarlet at the center. In the middle is a golden orb; the reflections in its surface suggest the sun and crescent moon. Four gold-and-Orange scepters topped by ankhs radiate outward, dividing the card into fourths. Each quarter contains a ram’s head in umber, flanked by snake-like blue lines; a silver throne flanked by yellow, flame-like mountains; two sets of blue plate armor for the torso and arms; and two golden imperial crowns with white beards. Around the rim of the card is white text including the number 4 and the words The Emperor, Aries, Mars, Fire, Chokmah/Tiphareth, and Dominion.

Also it’s in 12/8, but the triplet beat is so heavy you can waltz to it, if you don’t mind it being a little fast. (I quite like it when something in 6/8 or 12/8 can be interpreted as if it were in 3/4, even if the interpretation is a little strained.)
