I think this is right and might have the useful side effect of requiring Labour to get more serious about their own plans on fiscal policy and defence!
They are comfortably more serious than the Greens there, but still a bit “we’re going to tighten fiscal policy and raise defence spending… soon”.

And never forget: on the Latchmere Estate, Reform Street does not lead directly to Freedom Street.

An incredible retraction by the Daily Telegraph today. They have apologised for publishing an article last year headlined: “We earn £345k, but soaring private school fees mean we can’t afford to go on five holidays.” The entire story was fabricated; the family did not exist.
This IPSO adjudication against the Telegraph is quite something
Confirms their story titled: ‘We earn £345k, but soaring private school fees mean we can’t go on five holidays’ was completely fabricated, with the family involved non-existent and stock pictures used

The @ipso.co.uk ruling of Telegraph’s preposterous “We earn £345k but soaring private school fees mean we can’t go on five holidays”, reveals the article to have been a fabrication. There is no such family as Al, Alexandra, Ali, Harry and Barry Moy. Glad to have acted as lead complainant on this.
😂😂This is the best comparison ever. Would this piece even land if ever performed at the Dubai Leiaure Centre,.. sorry Opera House? The full Mahagonny does need a trim but I much preferred the new ENO one to the Covent Garden's 2014 version where Wigglesworth was very drab and slow.
This is actually a pretty good summary of where we’re at, and how we got here.
In case you missed it ...
Here's a great German poem against the current rise of fascism by Simon Pearce (inspired by Erich Kästner). I've done a basic translation for you in the next post so you can also enjoy it in English.

House Full sign outside English National Opera
I’m not personally at Mahagonny tonight, but it’s bloody lovely to see this sign outside ENO.

If you've woken up this morning thinking 'It's the weekend and I've just read an interesting review of Mahagonny at ENO'...
...you've missed it. Three strikes and they're out.
I saw @anothercinna.bsky.social posting about Mahagonny - currently on in London.

Examples from Haringey, Lambeth, Hackney, Camden and Lewisham.
It’s the end of the week and we’ve now reached No. 25 of my recommended texts on the background, dynamics and politics of the 1926 General Strike in Britain in this 100th anniversary @strikemap.org @sslh.bsky.social @keithbeard.bsky.social @nwlh.bsky.social @iassc.bsky.social @redhen90.bsky.social
Theatre programme of Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny
Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny is nearly 100 yet feels alarmingly fresh in its takedown of greed and money-worship. Not the easiest watch, but this @E_N_O production is stunningly performed and absolutely worth the (rather long) time.
Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny review – big and brash staging for Brecht and Weill’s whisky-soaked dystopia
English National Opera's Mahagonny: biting, bleak, brilliantly executed satire

Where is the fabled city of Mahagonny? The set for English National Opera’s new production of Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny consists of little more than a giant box and in-your-face slogans (“Your choice, your freedom”, “Drink up, shut up”). The opera, it tells us, could be any place

Having now seen this, I can at least understand the production which has a "just make sure it fits in 1 shipping container" feel to it. But the opera really spoke to me in a way it didn't at the RoH. I came away feeling like I was living in Mahagonny...
@aquilanebula Good wasn’t it? Btw, reviewed it for the Circle’s website, plus Mahagonny this week: criticscircle.org.uk/heartlessnes... Others from Claudia & Alexandra up as well
Anyway today's soundtrack to the constant typhoon besieging our crippled Mahagonny... The best interpretations of Kurt Weill & Bert Brecht committed to vinyl by the godlike-genius that was Hal Willner. open.spotify.com/album/4YF3uQ...
Okay, this is quite outstanding from Bedford Council.
