At Government Centre and watching 12 cops and "peace" officers standing around jerking off is certainly a way to piss away Edmonton tax money. And then residents have the audacity to blame bike lanes for their high taxes πŸ™„

Giving away free parking downtown will have the opposite effect and harm transit as it will just continue incentivizing car usage. You have to do both but anytime you even suggest putting money towards even more LRT, car drivers shit a brick. Yet no smoke for billions blown on road maintenance.

On-Street Meters

The cost of all parking meters in Hamilton is $2 per hour. Operational hours:

in Hamilton are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 9 pm

in Dundas are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm

Some meters in the downtown core are exempt from paying after 6 pm and/or free on Saturdays. Please check the parking meter while making payment which displays the operational hours on the front face of the meter to ensure compliance

The maximum amount of time for purchase varies by area. Please check the parking meter.

Some streets with meters contain morning and/or afternoon peak rush hour restrictions. Please check the parking meter and regulated signage in the metered area to ensure there is no restriction while parked.

Just do what Hamilton does, $2/hr between 8am to 6pm most days and free on Sundays and all overnights on all meters. Problem solved.

Fairness and Equity in Parking Reform- Part 3 - Parking Reform Network In previous posts, we talked about why adding parking doesn’t solve the β€œparking problem,” and why we need to use pricing to get turnover and create parking availability to actually solve the β€œparking...

The literature around free parking being detrimental to lower income folks doesn't pan out in the long term and I think you need to seriously reconsider your position on it. There's an entire book called The High Cost of Free parking that's worth a read.

Come on now, the fare cap is $102 per month which is far cheaper than the equivalent in gas and maintenance on a vehicle not even touching the insane price of car insurance in this province. You're delusional if you think car ownership is cheaper in the grand scheme of things.

I am pretty poor currently and if you can't afford transit you sure as shit can't afford a car (not that I'd want a car anyway). Transit is infinitely cheaper than owning a car by leaps and bounds.

Nobody in the section I live in needs street parking, every apartment in that block has parking already and plenty of it. Free parking that close to downtown is a mistake and is just bad planning which leads to more car use when there's an LRT station down the street!

06.03.2026 07:01 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I'm talking right in front of the apartments between 106 and 107 Ave. People dump cars for days there. Complete waste of public space with zero benefit to the city.

06.03.2026 06:26 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Good, using public space to park private vehicles should always have a cost associated with it. Edmonton doesn't even have paid parking on tons of streets which is wild to me. Even streets like 104 St. directly behind a sports stadium. Talk about wasting your public space and gaining nothing.

No offence, but perhaps you should be paying more attention and not just sucking down the lies these AI companies are feeding you.

The amount of bunk info they've spit out is insane. They've been shown to do this repeatedly. One only has to remember the "how many R's are in 'strawberry' debacle". And if you're using Claude specifically, you're using one that's being used to commit war crimes on the US/Israel's behalf.

I feel even more vindicated having never used this fucking AI bullshit. If you use these technologies you're enabling them to use it for monstrous atrocities like this. I hope your stupid cutesy cartoon characters of yourself haunt you in your nightmares. BAN IT ALL!

The better question is why you use any LLM in the first place. They've been proven over and over and over again to be completely unreliable with providing factual information.

Could you hacks at Reuters be anymore sinophobic, my god. How does this project strength on Trump's part as he sends troops into the meat grinder? Xi looks like a saint in comparison. Do nothing, win.

I used to work at Home Depot in Canada and so many of my fellow co-workers didn't believe me when I said the stock buy in program was just a tool to stop unionization. The company can go "you invested in stocks so if you unionize the stock will tank and you'll lose your buy in". Scum company.

I just liked taking the piss out of him here and there. Would ask him why he had zero concern for the police budget ballooning every budget and he would never answer. Always went back to blaming the tiny shelters or the cyberattack. He's not a serious person and an asshole on top of that.

I know right?! It's really not that difficult. Crazy these ghouls run for city council and sometimes win because people don't pay attention to what they get up too online long before the elections begin.

Plus his only beat is dumping on the tiny home debacle. Don't get me wrong, it was a mess but to base nearly your entire campaign on it is a bit nuts. I hope he gets knocked down a few pegs once the election finishes. He loves playing the "just a concerned Dad" routine which makes me wanna barf.

Finally got that coveted block by Andrew Selman from my old hometown. I'm in good company with @antilinguist.bsky.social, @lesaboteur.bsky.social and @stratscat.bsky.social. He's such a petty bitch that he name searched himself πŸ˜‚ And he wants to be a ward councillor with that thin skin.

It's always so sad when they dig them up and you see what we lost as cities. Hamilton had that a lot too, they'd find old tram track and then I look at the old HSR maps from the early 1900's at everything they took away for cars and die a little inside 😒

Nothing surprises me with Carney anymore at this point. Guy is just a conservative with a red tie. Beefing up the military while leaving public transit hanging, shit like this, draconian border bill, etc, etc πŸ˜’

And I sadly never got to try it before moving to Edmonton. Was like pulling teeth to even get that thing built with everyone and their mother pretending the traffic sky was going to be falling once it was built.

A wonderful black and white archival picture of Jasper Avenue in Edmonton with centre street running trams. The caption attached says:

This Thursday the City of Edmonton Archives is throwing it back all the way to Jasper Avenue in 1930. This photo is by Alfred Blythe, who was a photographer in Edmonton from ca.1916 to 1970. Alfred ran his own studio and had many photographs featured in the Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Bulletin. To find more photographs showing Edmonton's history check out our online catalogue! This post from Yeg Archives on Instagram immediately made me go "why don't we have dedicated bus lanes on Jasper?". They ripped out dedicated trams, gave it to cars and can easily steal the space back, THEY ALREADY HAD IT IN THE 1930's!!!!! We need nice things again, hell, bring the trams back!

I can't say I'm surprised, most people aren't going to side with drivers in these cases because most have such shit experiences as pedestrians, myself included.

Hard not to make a hypothetical when you give zero context in your post outside of they walked on a flashing red. Flashing red could be fresh or 5 seconds left. Don't leave your example with zero context and people wouldn't make assumptions πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

27.02.2026 17:47 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Considering how short most crossings already are in Edmonton, I can hardly begrudge someone walking when it starts flashing. Some start flashing at 25 seconds for God's sake. So what, I'm just supposed to not walk with that long left cause a hand is flashing? Maybe just don't take the right on red?

Goddamn, the amount of astroturfed propaganda is unreal on Instagram. This just comes off as desperate. Pushing for MORE coal mining in 2026 is absolutely wild shit. This is just pathetic and shows how much we're not taking anything seriously when it comes to renewables.
