Every year Winter Brain brings me so much joy and we need lots of joy right now. Such great science and even more amazing people. I’m ecstatic and honored to be continuing my role on the Board of Directors for the next 4 years! See ya’ll next year in Breck! ❄️

Pregnancy's lasting imprint: Late pregnancy allopregnanolone alters rat fear recall and medial prefrontal cortex activity Pregnancy and the postpartum period induce long lasting alterations in mood and cognitive function, yet the parous brain remains vastly underexplored.…

I’m thrilled to share my first β€œfirst-author” pub! Here we showed that pregnancy dampens fear recall in a long-lasting way, and this may be driven by the high levels of AP that exist during late pregnancy. I’m so grateful for this incredible team of co-authors! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Incredibly proud of @lindsayvincelette.bsky.social for her first, first author pub in the Shansky lab!! Amazing work looking at pregnancy during fear conditioning - Lindsay you’re an all star!

Heads up I will be hiring a postdoc and some techs in the new year! Lots of ephys and fiber photometry. If you've got soon to graduate PhD students or undergrads, send 'em my way!

as part of my full conversion from behavioral neuroscientist to physiologist, we, the Herman Lab, have compiled a playlist to encourage our cells (and ourselves) on rig days. any suggestions welcome!! @melissaherman.bsky.social

Once more for reviewers in the back: sex differences in behavioral outcomes are very often NOT a product of the estrous cycle and demanding that scientists build estrous metrics into experimental design only shows your own biases about how females (but not males) are primarily hormone-driven.
