BREAKING: DC Circuit, on a 2-1 vote, keeps in place a lower court order blocking DHS Sec. Noem’s effort to end Haiti temporary protected status designation.

Judges Pan and Garcia deny DOJ’s request to stay the district court order. Judge Walker would have granted it.

Haiti TPS is safe for now.

Well, I'm on my way home from birding on the Platte River in Gibbon, Nebraska and I can say with absolute certainty that the white Pelicans have not yet arrived there. Only about 115,000 Sandhill Cranes, 50-60 thousand snow geese, 1000 or so pintails, 1 whooper (allegedly) and 0 pelicans.

Important to remember re: Proton (Mail/other services) is that they have always bragged about being governed by Swiss law in their marketing, but let people assume that Switzerland's famed privacy in banking transactions applies in other realms of civil society.

It firmly and resolutely does not.

Close to 650 federal agents remain in Minnesota weeks after border czar announced end of operation There are still more than quadruple the 150 agents Tom Homan said there would be in the state by the end of last week.

They’re still lying to us.

Apparently there is a Jefferson Lines bus that goes Madison to Rochester (on the way to the Cities), and there's a local bus service that does go west from Rochester on the same day, but bus drops off at 3 PM and the other bus leaves at 3:05 PM. This feels dangerous.

04.03.2026 16:51 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Yep, exactly! We're trying to cut down to one car (and one is at the end of its life and I don't want to replace it), and it's just taking care of my family in MN that's the issue.

04.03.2026 16:44 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

The hyperlocal transit is still not great, though, as it's county-based, and thus if I wanted transit to my dad's, I have to take a longer bus ride with a transfer to get to his county, whereas there's a direct ride from the Cities to the town /closest/ to my dad, but he'd have to come get me.

04.03.2026 16:27 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

This is especially infuriating to me because most of the small towns in southern MN were built by the rail lines to have workers and places for people to stop, etc. But now passenger rail is dead and cars are absolutely necessary for most folks in these areas. There is hyperlocal transit, at least.

04.03.2026 16:19 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

There should absolutely be a bus that runs between Madison and Rochester (and a certain company should perhaps use their clout to make that happen, since they have employees in both places), and there should be a bus that runs between Rochester and Sioux Falls, with stops along the way. But nope.

It is infuriating to me that I cannot take any sort of transit (train, bus) for a trip that is ~300 miles and the majority of the trip is along I-90.

I could take a trip to the Twin Cities, where I likely would have to stay overnight because of timing, and then take an additional trip back south.

Even putting aside the implications for the laws of war, someone who describes mass killing in this way is not well, nor is the society that empowers that person to kill.

He's right of course. Employer-linked benefits aren't natural law but a WWII wage-control workaround we never bothered to fix. It's also why Americans are afraid to start businesses or leave bad jobs. We've chained risk-taking to a paycheck.

Screenshot of text from an essay. Text reads: "This war with Iran, like so many wars before it, will be cast as regrettable but necessary. But necessity is not the church’s measure of morality; faithfulness is. And faithfulness to Jesus Christ—who loved his enemies, who refused to bring violence to them, who forgave those who killed him—gives no room for supporting acts of aggression cloaked in the rhetoric of security."

This essay is a good reminder of the things I believe Christianity to be grounded in (even as I no longer consider myself a true member of that faith), especially as we hear of American leadership using the language of Christianity to justify their violence.
