Ophrys bombyliflora (a first for me 💥) flowering today on Gran Canaria alongside Gennaria diphylla (and seeding Habenaria tridactylites) @1025m asl on a NW facing slope under pine & eucalyptus. Orchis canariensis in full bloom nearby. Happy days! 💜🇪🇸🌋 @ukorchids.bsky.social @orchidvinny.bsky.social

Gran Canaria was super green last week after the recent storms. Plenty of orchids in flower, but tad early for the best O.canariensis blooms. Surprise find, a patch of Ophrys bombyliflora rosettes - the only Ophrys in the Canaries and probably only found on Gran Canaria ... will go back! 💜🌋🇪🇸

I'd just walk in from the main car park and start opposite the visitor centre, then walk on out along the main path into the main part of the reserve (Greenland lake) ...the ALTs are everywhere where there's a hint of moistness ...
