The Rise of the Prediction Markets Is As Grim as It Gets I don't think Dante foresaw "insider trading on the specifics of illegal wars of aggression," but it definitely belongs in one circle or another.

Anyway

jfc everything I read or hear about these things makes them seem even worse, a perpetual motion machine of utter depravity

I know assigning forethought to any of this is dumb but it really is wild to be like "we're starting a chaotic regional war exactly where all the oil is" and then be like "uh shit, right, gas prices, um, well,,"

An Army Corps project could wipe out one of Florida’s last thriving coral reefs The fate of one of the last thriving coral reefs in Florida may be imperiled by plans to widen the shipping channel leading into Port Everglades.

The US army corps of engineers is considering, right now, what would be the largest destruction of coral reefs in US history. To make a port slightly bigger.

People know this, right?

It genuinely is, as well as being a goddamn delight.

Jaws created the summer blockbuster. It still does not qualify here. You simpletons. You rubes.

Guys baseball movies are not fundamentally summer movies. They are baseball movies. Summer slashers are slashers. Etc etc. These need to have SUMMER or WINTER as their root, a backbone. As defined by me, some dipshit.

06.03.2026 01:38 πŸ‘ 34 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 9 πŸ“Œ 0

I will accept Stand By Me as a summer movie though I think it has some other vibes.

06.03.2026 01:31 πŸ‘ 16 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Hundreds of Beavers a great winter addition. Groundhog Day is not, in fact, a holiday movie.

06.03.2026 01:31 πŸ‘ 19 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

what a fun contribution

Hot Tub Time Machine is a great winter addition. The Thing is snowy but not a WINTER movie. The Shining… I’ll allow it.

Caddyshack is a good SUMMER addition.

Best definitively SUMMER movies:

-Do the Right Thing
-Wet Hot American Summer
-Snack Shack
-Dazed and Confused
-Summer of Sam
-American Graffiti

Best definitively (non-holiday) WINTER movies:

-Fargo
-Hateful Eight
-Winter’s Bone
-Groundhog Day

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem: 9/1 odds

Noem, like Rubio, has gladly plastered herself across TV and other media these last few months to trumpet the administration’s ongoing descent into fascistic cruelty. But she somehow seems to court weird controversy β€” like this weekend, when she had her bag stolen from a DC restaurant, which for some absurd reason contained her passport and $3,000 in cash. Noem can’t protect her own purse, let alone the Homeland, and at some point it will catch up to her.

It took almost a year from when I set the odds (and the assumption at that point was that Hegseth wouldn't survive, so, oops), but Noem cashes in at 9/1.

President Donald Trump's chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is telling his advisers to bring ideas to the Oval Office to lower gasoline prices in the wake of the U.S. attack on Iran, according to two energy industry executives familiar with the conversations.
The White House is "looking under every rock for ideas on improving energy prices, especially gasoline prices," said one of the executives, who was granted anonymity to describe internal administration discussions.

I have an idea. Here’s my idea: We should have had this meeting last week before we started bombing Iran. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
