Thanks for the kind words Steve, Beddington and all the birding friends he had there was certainly his happy place over the years...those times and the place were unique! Although he enjoyed being on the coast it was never quite the same for him

Yes it was the Kildeer he found which stirred my interest as a child and his stories of how he found it! Crazy to think I finally saw a Kildeer just a couple of weeks ago....ironic hey!

You couldn't keep him away from the place! He never quite found a patch down here in west sussex

We lost a birding legend today, my uncle Gary (Messenbird) passed away after several health issues this morning, a Beddington and Surrey legend and a big influence on my birding life, something I will be forever grateful for ! He will be missed 🪶

A nice trip to Hampshire to see my first ever Kildeer which showed well in the scope, adult Little Gull on the lake was a nice bonus too #ukbirds 🪶

Nice to see Bewick's Swans holding on in the Arun Valley with 3 today from Burpham Church including a youngster #ukbirds 🪶

Spent the majority of the day on the road today, noticed good numbers of Redwing around especially between Brighton and Gatwick , perhaps we had a fall last night

First visit of the year to Staines res...Water levels still dropping. Lesser and Greater Scaups showed well at the tower end, upto 3 Great-northern Divers and a good scattering of Black-necked Grebes made it a good morning...bitterly cold

Nice surprise today finding a Yellow-browed Warbler in Tecos car park at Horley nr Gatwick airport, no camera with me so grabbed a video instead as the bird called often...showed well #ukbirds 🪶

Black Guillemot at Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour, not every day you get to enjoy this species on the south coast, same location hosted one here the winter of 2017/18. Great birds #Ukbirding 🪶

Had to move fast on a text from @swannerysteve.bsky.social this afternoon, although he'd confirmed it by the time I was mobile it was a real joy to see this Baikal Teal at work on day two of my October holiday!

Yellow-browed Bunting trapped, ringed and released at the Swannery. It's flown to the hedge which runs alongside the Swannery grounds and the bird may be viewable from the permissive path heading west from Grove Lane.
