Woo hoo! Our proposal for #DH2026, βMinimal Computing with a Database? The Pan-African Data Project as Hybrid Minimal Computing,β was accepted. This was, however, the first time I had two of the reviews say to go back and re-read Roopika Risamβs work. My powers of anonymization are strong!

FairImage (and FairData)! π
βPairing free buses with paid parking says we value people in motion more than cars at rest,β writes Nicolas Rohatyn.
When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.
I think I know just the person! π
On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.
We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.
Congratulations! π

Cannot wait to share this with all of you!
The feeling could not be more mutual, @roopikarisam.bsky.social -- it's a pleasure and a privilege!
Hands down, the best professional decision I made last year was to work with @performant.bsky.social. Could not love collaborating with @jamiefolsom.bsky.social @anindita.org and their amazing colleagues more. π
Honoring our collaborators @performant.bsky.social, whose rigor and skill helped make Native Bound Unbound possible.
They built a platform that connects people, stories, and places across timeβa living archive built with care, precision, and imagination.

Not unexpected, but scary/impressive/fascinating...
Just-in-Time Malware that use LLMs during execution, to "dynamically generate malicious scripts, obfuscate their own code to evade detection, and leverage AI models to create malicious functions on demand."
Bring it on! π
A project that my company @performant.bsky.social has been working on for multiple years launches tomorrow! Launch events will be live-streamed on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm MT. It's been such a privilege to work with the Native Bound Unbound team. They describe the project as follows... (1/4) #DH

Google AI search result for βwas 2010 fifteen years ago?β returning: βNo, 2010 was 14 years ago, not 15 years ago. The current year is 2025, and to find the number of years ago 2010 was, you subtract 2010 from 2025, which equals 14. Current Year: 2025 Past Year: 2010 Years Ago: 2025 - 2010 = 14 yearsβ

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.
Weβre thrilled to be a Pelagios Partner. Great working with such a smart, generous group of collaborators.
We feel so lucky to work with you, Roopsi! Data essays (among other great ideas you imagined) have become key features available to future projects.
Working with Performant over the last year has been dreamy! I had wanted to collaborate with them for a while, and itβs been as awesome as I hoped. (And this link has a tiny sneak preview, aka screenshots, of what weβve been up to.)
Pelagios is proud to count Performant & Rainer as Partners. Together, we are trying to build methods/tools for annotating & structuring data "in the round", where different Partners contribute knowledge, resource and/or funding, towards distributive resilience. The whole suite is available at affordably for those who canβt or donβt want to self-host, and the final product of a project can be built as a static website, hostable freely, and independently of the software (static images, maps and search coming soon) #dh2025 #minicomp
Performant Studio is a set of smaller sharper tools which you can use together or separately, and which integrate nicely with others, including Recogito Studio, the TEI and IIIF annotation platform we built in collaboration with @aboutgeo.bsky.social, University of Bonn and others. #dh2025
