I think people would have more truck with the House of Lords if we started to refer to them more often by their proper designations of the Lords Temporal and the Lords Spiritual, which is very 70s Moorcock.
That is, to an extent, true, but it's not something I'd see as a problem!
...or perhaps a porn star?
Great we didn't want to send them anyway.
Enjoy losing another illegal war, War Criminal.
...and that was after persevering throughout an eternity when they seemed obsessed with the Wedding Present and The House of Love who both struck me as arse-achingly dull and irrelevant
Very interesting, and as an avid NME reader back in the day, it definitely rings true. I gave it up around 2000 as it seemed to have utterly lost the plot, pushing increasingly dull indie bands at a time when a fascinating kaleidoscope of music from elsewhere was opening up...
Got a new article out today in @jbritishstudies.bsky.social. It's about the ways in which the music press constructed race in late 20c Britain. Open access so do share it around!
Thanks to @leverhulme.ac.uk and @uniofreading.bsky.social for supporting the research.

People constantly claim that Solar Panels will 'destroy farmland'.
But actually the opposite is true, in many parts of the world the shade and trapped moisture Solar Panels provide allow MORE crops to grow, even though a large percentage of Solar Panels is covering the land.

He, too, was believed to have survived by eating his owner. While cats have the reputation for doing this, dogs do it more frequently.
There was a real case like this in the 80s, involving, if memory serves me well, a dog named 'Ruswarp'
Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.

See Tim Powers' book 'The Drawing of the Dark'. The finest occult beer fiction available.
It takes real galaxy brains to mass cancel solar and wind projects and then start a pointless unpopular war that sends oil prices soaring.
Andrew Neil lives in a mansion in France that he moved to using EU rules where he doesn't pay any tax in the UK.
And he spends his time moaning about the EU he chooses to live in and the poor state of the UK, which is due to tax dodgers like him.
I'm 65 - I still lust after those Aurora kits, just as I did when they appeared in the window of Chapman's on Addington parade in 1968; if he finds the god, let me know
An apocalyptic, authoritarian theology justifying geopolitical violence. Gotcha.

I have just written this up for Fortean Times under the headline 'Butthole Surface'
Wise old horticultural woman I met: βIf you find a rabbitβs foot and tickle the leaves of your tomato plant with it your tomatoes will grow faster.β
Me: βInteresting. I might try that.β
Next-doorβs rabbit, the following day: βStop that, and put me the fuck down. I did not consent to this.β
Spain is leading the way declaring.
NO to violations of international law.
NO to the illusion that we can solve the worldβs problems with bombs.
NO to repeating the mistakes of the past.
NO TO WAR.
Be more Spanish.

U.S. commanders explicitly told troops the war on Iran is a βChristian war to bring about Armageddon and the return of Jesus.β
This is NOT reassuring
