Did you know, you can use contrails to predicate bad weather? If a contrail lingers and expands over time along with natural building cirrus, this is a good indication of a warm front moving in. Contrails can give you up to 36 hours notice whereas cirrus may give you around 12 - 24 hours.
Sun leaves and shade leaves can give a rough idea of direction. The smaller, thicker, darker leaves are found on the south side of a tree. The larger, thinner, lighter leaves are found in the north side of a tree.

Use a small bowl with some water and this stops the canister freezing and affects the gas flow. For wildcamping, I use the MSR mini trail or duo cook kit, this includes a small plastic pot which fits a 100g canister perfectly.
