It was a delight to share insights from our research on youth voting with @asc.upenn.edu on behalf of my fabulous collaborators @curse10.bsky.social @asinclair.bsky.social @diegoreinero.bsky.social @falklab.bsky.social!
π¨π£ Weβre recruiting a postdoc! π£π¨

Young voters played a key role in elections across the country last week. Itβs fantastic to see record turnout in so many communities AND we still have so much room to grow!
For ideas on how to motivate and support youth to vote check out our new commentary:

Shout out to our amazing team members: @curse10.bsky.social, @dcosme.bsky.social, @asinclair.bsky.social , Emily, Omaya, Julia, Pètra, Sophia, Paula, Lyan, Penn Leads the Vote, & the Netter Center for Community Partnerships!
Our messages can now be directly shared by our youth partners β and by you! Our co-created messages are available on OSF, linked on our preprint page. (5/5)
Overall, we found that research grounded in scientific theory and the lived experiences of youth yields more effective youth GOTV messages. We also found that network analyses (how beliefs relate to each other) complemented a gold-standard design process and uniquely informed messaging design. (4/5)
Messages targeting those beliefs were the most effective. We also found that our co-designed messages were more persuasive and motivating to youth than both existing student messages AND messages from a large-scale national campaign. (3/5)
We combined communication research and participatory practices to map student voting beliefs, then co-designed messages targeting the most influential beliefs. We found that youth are more motivated to vote when they believe voting is self-relevant and the election outcomes will impact them. (2/5)
π³οΈπ£Happy election day!! What motivates young people to vote?
In a new preprint, we share key findings from our collaboration with undergraduate students where we developed and tested a theory-guided GOTV messaging campaign doi.org/10.31234/osf... (1/5)

Although multiple factors shape whether we act on our intentions, intentions are valuable precursors of behavior that can guide the iterative development of behavior change interventions.
