Miao et al. link early-pregn ancy maternal gut microbiom e to preterm birth, identifying Clostridium innocuum and its estradiol-degra ding gene enriched in women with preterm birth. C. innocuum degrades estradiol and interacts with host genetics to amplify risk. These findings propose estradiol-degrad ing bacteria as predict ive biomarkers and therapeutic targets for preterm birth.

In an unorthodox study, researchers invented a special kind of floss that can protect against infectious disease. In the process, they had to do something no scientist had done before-- try to floss a mouse.

Sex at birth may not be purely random, according to a new
#ScienceAdvances study.
Instead, each familyβs likelihood of having only male or only female children is a βweighted coin tossβ influenced by maternal age and genetics. scim.ag/3ILwz3O

"Despite my discomfort and the potential for backlash, I need to make myself visible as a single parent and to advocate for change."

Everyone who works for PRAMS (the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) at CDC was terminated today. That appears to be the end of a critical program which monitored infant and maternal health nationwide across pregnancy, childbirth & postpartum. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/prams...
Congratulations to the new Dr. Jordan Machlin and the Shikanov Lab the latest publication on single-cell analysis of human oocytes. We spent many, many hours searching for eggs under the microscope π¬ and found minimal differences in fresh vs. cryopreserved oocytes.
