“Clicked” Hydrazone Photoswitches
The length of the linker connecting a photoswitch to a material significantly influences the latter’s properties, with “zero-length” linkers being ideal for optimal photomodulation. The 1,2,3-triazole...
Click chemistry is a powerful way to stitch molecules together — but in our new @jacs.acspublications.org paper bit.ly/4cNBqMK we find that not all triazoles are equal! When it comes to #photoswitch the 1,5-regioisomer (not from "click") surprisingly outperforms the classic 1,4🧪⚗️ #molswitch #chemsky

My favorite is when he corrects people’s pronunciation. “It’s not Frasier, it’s Fraser, like eraser but with an F.”

True story, but I was the only American group member he specifically allowed to call him Sir Fraser since I was accustomed to replying “yes Sir” or “no Sir” (Texas upbringing) and Knighthood isn’t a US title. Otherwise his reply would normally be, “yes Sir, no Sir, three bags full Sir”.

At least in the physical sciences where our terminal degree is the PhD.

I think context is pretty important in its usage but it’s worth noting that Doctor to refer to PhDs certainly predates its usage to refer to physicians. In this particular case, given the AP journalistic style in place, Professor Stoddart would also have conveyed similar recognition.

Nice write up Violet but you repeatedly refer to Dr. Fraser Stoddart as Mr. Stoddart throughout. He obtained his PhD in 1966. I believe he has earned the academic title and the recognition it deserves. #chemsky @roysocchem.bsky.social @cenmag.bsky.social @suntimes.bsky.social

“Mark, you rascal. I’ll have your guts for garters!” Words of passionate support from my dearly departed PhD advisor, Sir Fraser Stoddart, whose tutelage and mentorship forever changed my life, the life of my family, and many others. He was truly our Nobel-worthy noble Knight. My heart is broken.

Would this be a singly charged species, doubly, or multi charged? If more than singly charged, I can recommend some counterion exchange steps using other salts, but for singly stuff we use AmberLite IRA402 Cl .

What do journals need if I’m wanting to publish this figure in a manuscript? Normally I would license a random image and provide the license but since this bears my university logo, is a license still needed? #chemistry #science #publishing
