Tbh, you probs won't have fun with the 3/4ths of Shane's behavior in the book it's actually so bad and a place where the adaptation is way better. Shane in the book never apologizes for how he left Ilya post tuna melt gate, and it's that energy on repeat in TLG 😵💫 Like does he hate Ilya 😭
So that's not to say that he's actually uncomfortable with his hair, it's literally fine. It just reads that way because the author couldn't think of another way to introduce the concept in a way that felt meaningful vs just saying, he grew his hair out and left it because ~love~
Well yes, but I've taken this unique approach to the book canon where everything that makes me uncomfortable is Rachel's writing style not the canon. I interpret it as she wanted to highlight Shane's new hairstyle was Ilya inspired but could only do so by framing it as uncomfortable for this scene.
