A bright yellow nudibranch with black and blue markings crawls on underwater vegetation against a dark background. Photo by Olakhalaf.
There's a sea creature whose common name is the pikachu nudibranch and I need everyone to see it immediately.
yeah, even if it is "just" a bidet, cleansing a sanitary fixture is important.
How? Ow! wow.
how do you clean such an appliance/accessory/appurtenance?
yow.
Magnificent giant soft green moth with 4 eye spots and long twisty "tail", at rest with wings spread on the side of a pine
Luuuuuuuuuunaaaaaa π
Few local creatures stop me in my tracks like this, just the sheer size and soft colors and markings. Like, welp, day instantly better.
A bright winding ribbon of green light shoots diagonally up from the bottom, left to the top right of the night sky. The bottom of the image is framed with the silhouettes of spruce trees.
Of the three seasons during which I guide tours in Churchill, #aurora season is by far of the most stressful, because we have no control over what people are coming up to see. Tonightβs show was a big relief and a huge excitement for my guests. Now I can sleep. π
SPRING IS COMING! Birds singing, frogs eeping, bees buzzing!! After the muffled hush of winter I canβt wait!

A very round white and brown shorebird stands on the sand with blurry ocean waves behind.
The news is terrible but Iβm going to continue posting birds and frogs and flowers and the sky because looking at nature can help us keep going in the face of all the awful. Please take good care of yourselves

"Permitting reform" in this Congress, shaped by longstanding fossil fuel industry ideas adopted by the EnergyTech alliance, would erode bedrock environmental laws & risk closing off future clime and energy transition pathways rooted--not in corporations & tech--but in people, communities, & nature.
Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis) is one of our earlier blooming trees and it is already blooming as far north as Bibb County. No doubt the bees are grateful β this is a great tree for supporting native bees. It is native in most of the eastern US and throughout Georgia. (1/2) #nativeplants
Dang, I love those leaflets.

Small bright green Polypodium glycyrrhiza fern leaves grow upside down in a bright olive green moss bed on a big leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum) branch. You can see a profusion of mossy and lichenous tree branches in the background. This was photographed from a foot bridge over a ravine, looking straight into the crowns of the trees growing in the ravine floor.
An array of green mosses and lichen in various shades of blue to blue-green cover an apple tree branch crotch. There are flat growing shield lichen, a few branching lichens, both sturdy looking and lacy, and prickly looking moss branches. It is a medley of textures. Apple trees seem to have the best lichens and mosses.

a close-up of a small flower whose five egg-shaped petals come to a blunt point. the petals are starkly white but marked with faint pink streaks; at the base of each petal there is a small spot of golden yellow. the ovary in the center of the flower has a pale green tint, with pale pink anthers suspended above on white stamens. behind the blooming flower there is an upright bud fixing to open, plus a few nodding buds encased in green.
this flower's five petals are curved up forming a bowl around the white stamens with pink anthers that stand in the center of the flower. the white petals are streaked purple-pink, with a golden yellow spot at the base of each. a couple buds getting ready to open hang to either side, with a whole clutch of green, younger buds nodding down in between.
the forest floor here has patches of green moss but is mostly coverd with brown fallen tree leaves. some young green leaves and shoots are poking up through the leaves, including long, thin, green or purplish-green springbeauty leaves similar to blades of grass. there are scattered blooming white springbeauty flowers across the scene.

Imagine if you were taking a nap and a bunch of sandwiches ran in your room, freaked out, and ran back out
There is a lot of moss in the tray. The leaves that are not moss are the lilies.
Yes, those are seedlings. The stringy green things are seedlings that just germinated this spring.
The ovate leaves are one year old. But still tiny.
One year old and recently germinated Trout Lilies, Erythronium americanum, are growing in a small tray full of moss. The yearling plants have ovate leaves; the recently germinated plants look like a straggly green thread. They will take several years to reach their mature size and bloom.
Mature Trout Lilies, blooming in our shade beds. Several nodding, buttery yellow, flowers each one dangles from a slender stem. Five deep red anthers protrude from the center of each bloom. The plantsβ leaves are dappled in shades of green and brown.

Trout Lilies, Erythronium americanum, in the picture on the left, one year old plants and recently germinated plants. On the right, mature ephemeral lilies. It can take 4-5 years to go from seedling to blooming .
#nativeplants #gardensky Remember those Beech nuts I posted a couple months ago? Here's some spring magic at work. "Baby" Beech trees:
Yeah, like thatβs going to be better.
Thank you for this lovely poem.
A page from the book βGmorning, Gnightβ Text: Gnight. This moment will pass. This fatigue will pass. Tonight will pass. But look at you, with the gift of imagination. You can teleport to where you're happiest just by closing your eyes & breathing. Then come right back to now, check in with the present. You magic thing, you.
Good night.
Orchids are all kind of over the top, but somehow Australias orchids seem to kick it up a notch
Thatβs exciting! Such a wonderful βside effectβ of planting our native species is having the wildlife rebound. Kudos!
Side view of an orchid flower that is generally green with some red markings. The orchid's petals and sepals are long with two swept dramatically upwards and two pointing downwards
Caladenia falcata - the Fringed Mantis Orchid
To me, this orchid exudes drama with those upswept sepals and a broad labellum that is tipped slightly back. Endemic to Western Australia and flowering from late August.
