Sorry we missed you. It was just so unbearably bleak.

The Minister for Housing claims that we speak against govt's atrocious record on housing for social media clips.
While he throws insults, we provide solutions.
Minister Browne's policies have a human cost β not once has he acknowledged that cost.
Instead, he just deflects.
If you get a nice bit of secondhand kit you can have them both, the amplifier stacked above the CD and the vinyl on top. And tbh, some things arenβt available on vinyl, so youβll opt for CD and vice verse. The whole process is joyful
I appreciate this highlights the need to attack the problem at its source. But I worry about underestimating the challenge of legislating against mechanisms that make these companies profitable. Perhaps a 'yes, and' approach is needed? Children shouldn't be on social media as they currently are.
I had a good time at the movies last night:

I literally just came across this term for the first time approx 2 minutes ago, thought the same and moved on, before coming across this and inevitably googling it. I must assume Iβm entirely ignorant of what people are talking about online most of the timeβ¦
Would that not be βScotch Irishβ? I assumed reading it heβs compounding all 3 countries, not making a discreet inclusion of Protestant settlers. Perhaps he is, I just would be surprised if he had that level of historical literacy. In any case, heβs barely literate at all so who knows his intentionβ¦
Fucking insanity
A total failure to qualitatively assess the nature of that spending and its implications for the wider political economy
Itβs remarkable the IT wants us to believe the simple fact of an expansionary fiscal regime in the Irish context is by its very nature, centre left. One has to ignore infrastructural and demographic realities to propose such nonsense. And it is very much a fact FDI is threatened by NOT spending.
In Irland sind die Pubs zum Mittagessen geΓΆffnet, in Deutschland ist es schwierig, nachmittags ein Pint zu bekommen π’
Everything Dan Ennis does, he does it with enormous heart. π Proud every day to call him a friend, even prouder still to see the work he does across the community.
Politics needs more people like Daniel at the highest levels- Letβs move mountains to see him win the bye-election in Dublin Central. π
Whatβs more, the likelihood of the additional funds being eaten by an inflationary move in response to it shouldnβt be discounted. Help to buy scheme but for the economy at large
Yeah, I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this book at all! It's blurb was so promising!
Hard to say. The developers are suing the gov due to the strengthened tenancy protections. So theyβre obviously unhappy even still! I guess it kind of delegitimises the emphasis on private development as even a partial answer to the housing crisis? π«
Itβs an incentive for greater provision of build to rent apartments. It does nothing to address cost and will indeed be inflationary for rent, as is the intention (carrot for developers). It assumes the issue is entirely a supply one, which itβs not. Things are going to get a lot worse!
A per your point: "But I contend that it has a specific and well-understood meaning: acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group. The intent behind the crime bears no necessary relationship to its scale or success."
Obviously his health has rendered his commentary fairly limited, but considering he appeared to be making the argument that the scale of genocidal actions have something to do with the qualification of genocide, I'd be curious how he would square that with Gaza over the last 2 years...
I honestly have always found his condescending and bad faith approach to debate truly exhausting, even when I found myself agreeing with him. That email correspondence is insaneβ¦
Thanks for sharing!
Iβve loved your and Roryβs writing on this. And perhaps itβs outside your wheelhouse, but any thoughts on the AI bubble bursting and all this infrastructure falling away?
He got me good one time. Iβm easily spooked!
Upsides: reduction in data centre construction; deflationary impact on housing; FDI weakened & potential for new industrial policy under left gov.
Downsides: unemployment; emigration; reduced finance for construction & mortgages; fiscal austerity; increased poverty; insurgent far rightβ¦
Prediction: AI bubble bursts over the next 12-18 months with massive implications for Ireland. We see a decline in living standards, collapse of windfall tax & reduction in house prices. A left coalition gets narrowly voted in at next GE with some far right seats making up part of new opposition.
I'm conscious the above appear quite earnest for short-form posting. But while I lack the wit in the best of times to make funny quips about a given topic, I lack the want to make a funny quip about this one. It's just too depraved and sad
Needless to say, I've avoided logging on since the recent developments have come to light. I seriously don't want to happen upon some criminal pervert's AI generated material...
Admittedly, despite not being very active on any social media platform, Iβve kept twitter since Muskβs takeover for when thereβs a significant event as a large number of people in the world use it and it would be otherwise limiting to not have access to that material. Is deleting necessary?
