What do you say to a child who asks 'where is [person's name]?' after they've died?
That's my question in my latest book, out tomorrow 'Where are you, Eddie?'

fun fact I only really realised recently that most of my friendship circle is made up of extremely distinct looking people, or people with bright, bold fashion choices.
I might not be able to recall what you look like but if you're tall and wearing hobbit shit I will bond with you.
can't tell my friends in a crowd. can tell you immediately thats hacksaw jim duggan.
He wasn't even holding the plank. My autism just knows his vibrational frequency.
having the real time realisation that i might not be faceblind as I name every single wrestler that pops up on screen on a trivia gameshow.
apparently I can recognise people that apply to my special interest?? but also wrestlers wear consistent gear so...?
on the one hand I don't think harassing tourists really gets us anywhere productive. on the other hand, seeing war and death directly on a tv screen and not having someone from the country mostly responsible not immediately hang their heads in shame is rightfully infuriating.

Wildflowers, a couple of springs ago, in the churchyard in Buckfastleigh, Devon. This is actually a very spooky spot in winter as it's the resting place of the allegedly Satanic Squire Richard Cabell - inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Baskerville legend - whose corpse is boxed in by a somewhat incongruous structure, a little pagoda-ish, but also not unlike the kind of public toilet you might find in a small British town, which sits on the south side of the church. Do NOT walk around it backwards as the Devil will bite your fingers and Cabell will release his hell hounds. Also, the church has been burned down by Satanists not once but TWICE in the last couple of centuries. (I wrote about all this in more detail in my book 21st-Century Yokel, and a couple of the scarier gravestones inspired bits in my novel Villager.
Wildflowers love dead people.

Landmann, New Hampshire, by 1992 Moche artists were close observers of the natural world, and their early ceramics often depicted animals with considerable fidelity. Made before molds were commonly used, these effigies demonstrate an expansion of the sculptural possibilities of clay vessels. Some vessels captured salient features of animals two-dimensionally; in later centuries, slip painting would become the favored means to convey ideas.β

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kΔkΔpΕ chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!
No more neon hardcover dust jackets. We have enough eye burning green covers with a piece of clip art on it.
Which is probably a snake some flowers and a womanβs lips.

Meta has a history of torturing their moderators and providing NOTHING in the way of mental health care. How do I know? Because I used to be a moderator for Meta and I got a $3,500 settlement for the PTSD they gave me.
When we tried to unionize, they moved their moderation to the Philippines.
This is the point. If your vaunted trillion-dollar military can't get through a few days of airstrikes because you've consolidated the industrial base so badly, then you don't have a trillion-dollar military, you just have contractors in No. Virginia getting rich
Oh, now this can ABSOLUTELY fuck off!

You canβt have a half hearted effort for an epilepsy safe video, thereβs no way to guarantee it for some people with epilepsy.
Which means the warnings need to be slow, legible, clear and read aloud.
It annoys me so much how little people understand about epilepsy.
I remember people commenting on a particular wwe wrestlerβs entrance for being heavy on strobes being too much for epileptic watchers.
Mf every single graphic and pyro on raw/smackdown could cause a seizure in someone photosensitive.
If the flashing images warning isnβt clearly stated aloud, on a still, clearly legible screen and given at least six seconds for someone to read it, it is fucking useless.
I think video editors need to be sat down and given a basic understanding of epilepsy.
Choppy editing and fast cuts can also trigger seizures.
I keep seeing epilepsy warnings that give you two seconds to read them. I saw one just now that had a flash on the screen BEFORE THE WARNING POPPED UP.
One more week! πββοΈ
