One way to look at Newton's First La of Motion is that it takes one unbalanced force to change anything.
Not majority opinion. Not good intentions. One unbalanced force, applied persistently, in a direction.
Be that unbalanced force of change on March 7th.

Still not sure if you should attend a Take Back our Science Rally today? If you do nothing, nothing will change, and the way the current administration deals with science, things need to change.

Visit this link to find your local rally!

Dear SDB Members,

I am writing to clarify how to fully comply with the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy without paying the current $3,910 Article Processing Fee for Open Access for your paper accepted in Developmental Biology.

Attached is a diagram showing the process.

Once you receive the letter of acceptance for your paper in Developmental Biology, upload the accepted and unformatted version of your manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission system, NIHMS (nihms.nih.gov).

Select β€œ0 months” for the embargo.

Once approved, you will receive a PCMID number for your manuscript. Your manuscript will then be publicly accessible, satisfying the NIH Public Access Policy requirement.

If you choose the β€œOpen Access” option, you will pay the $3,910 Article Processing Fee. If you choose the β€œSubscription” option, you do not pay any fee. Developmental Biology has traditionally not charged authors for any fees as it was subsidized by institutional subscriptions. Royalties from Developmental Biology's institutional subscriptions also support SDB’s programs. SDB encourages you to ask your library to subscribe to Developmental Biology. Save your funds and support the SDB, while also fully complying with the NIH Public Access Policy!

Yours truly,

Richard Behringer, PhD

Another Society journal doing the right thing! @socdevbio.bsky.social confirms that upon acceptance in @devbiol.bsky.social authors can upload the accepted and unformatted version of your manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission system, satisfying NIH and making it available to all

Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein The warning signs included a web search, a mother’s doubts, and inklings of a β€œsexist attitude”

β€œAcademics tend to have this way of interacting with people that works really well when there is mutual good faith,” Aaronson says. β€œBut it breaks down when that doesn’t exist. And I think a lot of academics were just not prepared to deal with someone like him.”
