On a break from non-fiction and just finished a delightfully original novel β Fractured Oak by @carrierubin.bsky.social (pen name Dannie Boyd). The heart of this mystery thriller is a sentient oak tree, a perfect pairing for my tendency to talk to trees in the woods. π #AmReading #BookSky
My goal at the beginning of this year was to read more books and spend less time scrolling online. Happy to report that after five books, Iβm feeling much more educated, refreshed, and entertained β the way life should be. #AmReading #BookSky
I'm sorry for your loss, Sue. Thanks for sharing your experience. It reminds me of when I lost my Dad last year, how he was weak and tired with his eyes shut but would smile and squeeze my hand when I told him stories of long ago. These are moments to remember. I hope you are at peace...

Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.

Something interesting you might not have realized: a number of words in English are NOUNS when you stress the FIRST syllable, but VERBS when you stress the SECOND syllable.

New year, new pile of fiction and non-fiction books that I'm privileged to read and learn from. #AmReading #BookSky
Very lucky! My favourite saying is "learning is life, and life is learning." Working on a book and teaching capture both of those things.
I think 64 books is pretty amazing! I want to read more this coming year, and now I feel more inspired about my goal π
For a #writer and/or #editor, this reindeer covered in words is the perfect Christmas decoration. π

1. Books are easy to wrap.
2. Books donβt need batteries.
3. Books donβt hurt when you step on them in the middle of the night.
4. Books never come in the wrong color or size.
5. Books never need ironing.
6. Books donβt need to be assembled before being given.
"Canadian Word of the Year" on a red banner. Beneath the banner reads "maplewashing" and "the deceptive practice of making things look more Canadian than they actually are"
And the results are in! After carefully reviewing the results of a national poll the Board of Directors of the Society for Canadian English (SCE) has determined that this yearβs Canadian Word of the Year (CWOTY), the first of its kind, will be βmaplewashing.β
Lots of fun last night listening to the formidable and funny #MargaretAtwood chatting with Carol Off at the Vancouver Orpheum for the last #VancouverWritersFest event of 2025.
This quote is for me because even though I love summer, I also love putting on a warm coat, boots, and mitts and venturing out for a walk in the cold, fresh winter air. π
That's how I felt when I started drawing. Instead of telling a story with a keyboard, using pencil and paper to draw what's happening. π
Love this! Beautiful colours π
This sounds like so much fun, wish I could be there. (I'll be having a different kind of fun at the Eastside Culture Crawl, enjoying the myriad examples of art and creativity.) Enjoy making your author connections!
Looking forward to checking out this novel π #CanLit #AutumnReading
A beige poster in the middle of which are head shots of three light-haired white women, (left to right) Edeana Malcolm, Frances Peck, Petra Krumme. The poster says Author's Tea, Celebrate Local Authors! November 23rd, 2 to 4 pm, $10 cash at door includes tea and light treats. Along the bottom is a line that says Talk and Tea series at the LogCabinMuseum.com

Interesting article on continuing resistance to the plain language movement and why the term #plainlanguage itself may be the problem. Iβve thought for a long time that βplainβ isnβt the best adjective for writing thatβs clear and concise. It makes the writing sound boring, even though it isnβt.
Oh, I missed your original post about Moscato. So sorry to hear he is gone. He looked like a sweetheart.
I still remember that story!
Having some #autumn #leaf fun on my latest #StetWalk.
This sweater is just pure happiness, and we can tell by your smile π
I'm enjoy drawing with graphite, but seeing colourful art like this makes me smile and I find it hard to turn away from it

First day of fall, and I'm loving the stunning and diverse colour palette of the leaves. #StetWalk
Summer is winding down, but there's an early fall #writers festival perk to look forward to. #Vancouver #Books
