These sad and grateful days
On the early hours of Friday, my dear sister-in-law Mel died. The gaping holes left in our family, in Mel's family, and especially in the lives of my brother Ned and his son Barney, are indescribable. Mel and Ned married in 2011 but she's been a part of our family for far longer than that. This is the oldest photo I could find - from 2007 - featuring (from right to left) Ned and Mel and Ferg and, at the back, our Pops.

It’s so great to see the little things of joy stacked up like sandbanks against bad news or lanterns against the dark 🕯️

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

It really expanded the possibilities of reflective writing for me and was a helpful framework for processing end of one year/start of the next year ❤️
