Winter journaling joy It turns out that my favourite thing is running my Journal with me membership. Not having a million other things to do has opened up so much space to enjoy using my journal as a creative work / play / planning space and to share what I'm doing with others - with mischief and delight. These sad and grateful days On the early hours of Friday, my dear sister-in-law Mel died. The gaping holes left in our family, in Mel's family, and especially in the lives of my brother Ned and his son Barney, are indescribable. Mel and Ned married in 2011 but she's been a part of our family for far longer than that. This is the oldest photo I could find - from 2007 - featuring (from right to left) Ned and Mel and Ferg and, at the back, our Pops.

The power of celebrating daily life through creative action: a story and a manifesto Years ago I was in the Brownies (like Girl Guides but for 7-10 year olds) and wanted to get my art badge. The criteria was to make a piece of art, so I took in one of my paintings, expecting to straightforwardly trade it for the badge. (I've written about this before, but am thinking about it again just now).

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

It really expanded the possibilities of reflective writing for me and was a helpful framework for processing end of one year/start of the next year ❤️
