Lyft added a new feature for safety where you can request a driver who is more afraid of you than you are of them.
Let's say (which is unlikely imo - gotta get that out of the way), stuff was declassified & it was proven, w/out a shadow of a doubt, that there were hyper intelligent extraterrestrials who have visited earth -- Could your world-narrative(s) easily accommodate that possibility?
Social atomization was already accelerating w/recent tech developments (e.g. delivery, streaming services, social media, etc.) prior to gen AI
Wireheading has already long been at work. We've been desensitized to the process given its initially gradual movement.

basic car and computer work are probably the limits of my repair knowledge
Now, I do agree that there are instances of planned or "designed obsolescence," where a company goes out of its way to intentionally make a good last a shorter period of time, but I think this is probably relatively rare & more-so a byproduct of already having some degree of monopolistic power.
might, for instance, prevent the long-term ability of the business to produce more goods, expand, etc.
I think NDP just accounts for the depreciation of productive capital as there isn't an easy-to-determine ideal time horizon that consumer goods should last, not for nefarious reasons: e.g. there are many cases where a good could be made to last longer, but the extra costs in making it so...
Never finding oneโs calling vs. the tragedy of the unheeded call.
Some frustration w/AI in academia stems from genuine concern wrt to how itโs affecting studentsโ education, critical thinking skills, etc. (valid concerns). Another large part of it is feeling impotent in not knowing how to navigate this new landscape & anxious that their role might become obsolete
Whatโs worse?: the misapprehension of truth or the inability or refusal to affirm something true as such
2 of my most old school liberal reflexes โ assuming interlocutors are acting in good faith & steelmanning their views โ often a bad move on social media as most ppl reflexively do the opposite & present charitable reading/concessions as evidence of the strength of their arguments
Might be no escape from the obsolescence of human being, but If there is, gotta start from a place of optimism & bravado!
Have to say though: the Luddite-like response to any sort of tech thatโs in vogue among a lot of libs & lefties is so boring โ mainly because itโs just reflexive & ill-thought out โ born of lazy sentimentalism rather than any thought.
