Giant Pacific octopuses are den-dwellers by nature: tight, small spaces help them feel secure and comfortable. Because they have no bones, they can squeeze into tiny spaces! But they’re called giants for a reason: These animals can have a tip-to-tip measurement of about 25 feet! 🐙

Enrichment items like puzzle feeders—when food is placed inside a puzzle and the animal figures out how to retrieve it—allow animals to satisfy their behavioral needs, optimize their level of mental stimulation and create a rich, variable environment. 🧩

Get to know the GPO! 🐙
Giant Pacific octopuses have huge appetites and can consume 2–4% of their body weight each day. Fun fact: they're the largest octopus species in the world! Adults can weigh 40–100 pounds, with some recorded as heavy as 160 pounds. ⚖️

In case you missed it, there's a new harbor seal in town. Hey, Flounder! 🦭
Flounder is now calling Casey and Hogan his roommates in our Pier 60 harbor seal habitat. He joins us after the passing of Barney—one of the longest-lived harbor seals in human care—early last year. 💙

As a 12-year-old seal who has relied on human caregivers since birth, Flounder cannot live in the wild. Luckily, the Seattle Aquarium had space to welcome Flounder to our harbor seal habitat and provide him a safe, caring home. 💒
Welcome, Flounder! We love you already.

We are delighted to welcome Flounder to his new home in the Pacific Northwest! 💙🦭
Flounder is a harbor seal who was born at the Miami Seaquarium. Following their closure in October 2025, there was an effort to find homes for the animals that had been living there. +
