Netflix, I love so much about what you make and the work you do, but please understand how important it is to make movies and tv, to put movies in theaters, and to release physical media. Film is more than just content.

There’s nothing better than making movies and television and, ideally, making a living at it. Every single giant merger makes that even harder.
More media consolidation is terrible for our industry. Warner Brothers is an iconic company, and I hate to see it folded into another behemoth conglomerate. It means less opportunity for every union, every filmmaker, every actor, every screenwriter, and every crew member.
Share a ‘90s movie you think deserves more love
I know there’s so much going on, but I can’t believe everyone is ignoring the biggest story of the day.
WVU absolutely owned Pitt.
The thousand yard stare of someone who works at The Grove during the holidays.
Shoutout to the ADs and PAs of Plur1bus. It’s not easy to get background actors in sync like that.
A television showing a still of Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby next to a colorful, brightly lit Christmas tree.
It’s a vibe.
Mood. Technicolor Christmas trees and black & white movies.
I loved loved loved Roofman and I’m so glad it got made. Everyone involved crushed it.
Buuuuut it feels like a bleak sign for the industry that it took 7 production companies to get a modestly budgeted movie with huge stars across the finish line, right?
I thought working from home as a writer with no real set schedule messed up your concept of time, but it's nothing compared to retail.
What do you mean I just worked two 8-hour shifts and it's Monday?
The world is bleak, my country is breaking in half, my industry is falling apart, I'm working 4 jobs to survive, but hey basketball is back!
We all know True Grit is not the Coen Brothers’ best movie, but what this post presupposes, is maybe it is.
aaand we are officially in the hide-your-neighbors stage
It‘s easy to scroll social media and get the impression that everyone is doing better than you. But that’s rarely the full picture.
All this to say, it’s not just you. The industry is so, so hard right now. Do what you have to do to stay in the game. Don’t give up. Keep writing.

After all of that, today I accepted a job… at a book store.
And I’m glad to have it.
I was laid off from my day job a year ago and have been scraping as a reader for a coverage service.
A couple years ago, I was on The Black List with a script that’s in development with an amazing producer.
After that, I signed on to write & produce two projects with fantastic, talented teams.
This year, I pitched a movie with cool IP, a director of a hit film, and a great actor attached to star.
Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.
Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.
We have been sent here to fight for people.
“I hear the Democrats should be blamed, I hear the Republicans should be blamed. I actually think the president should be blamed if there is a shutdown. I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States.”
- Donald Trump, 2013
Whenever there's an election or proposition, the side running the most ads is inevitably the absolutely wrong side.
California, vote #YesOn50
the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.
Well, there it is. Sinclair is digging in for a fight, so please help push back -- find stations in your area, watch their local news to see what ads they run, then write those advertisers to tell them you're boycotting as long as they're on a Sinclair station.

Not to brag, but I protested at the Disney lot today, so you're welcome.
As I told @newrepublic.com, "Once last week, twice today, ICE has picked me up and thrown me on the ground. Honestly, it doesn’t compare to what our neighbors who are trapped inside the Broadview processing facility are going through. They’re committing crimes against humanity there."
Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption.
Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow.
People have power. Ask Target
I was reliably told celebrating political violence was cause for government reprisal and private sector termination.
I promise to continue never having gone to Disney Land.
the kimmel thing is bad but as long as they arent rounding people up indiscriminately based on race, building concentration camps and talking about eradicating those they deem sexual deviants, i think we’ll be ok
