Lawyer, author, EFF's first hire, Godwin's Law creator (he/him). Retweeting!=endorsing. I tell jokes here, mostly. My opinions here don't necessarily represent any employer or any client. You may have known me as @sfmnemonic on Twitter.
What?
Okay, so this is a non-sequitur, then. My tolerance for those is low.
Don't be silly.
Have you noticed that every political leader who presents himself as Superman turns into Homelander?
Paramount has a monopoly on Star Trek content, but since theyβve made my staple TV comfort food available in a one-stop shop, itβs a monopoly Iβd be hesitant to break up.
Honestly, I have to insist that my newly resurgent Star Trek hobby (I now collect model starships) is way better for me in these dark times than binge drinking was. Dreaming of a better future more often now.
I didn't know about that, but warning them that he's expensive seems entirely reasonable.
Yeah, that was great too!
The people who criticized the acting and writing of this episode--and they were quick to do so--are vicious little weasels. On Reddit, some clowns argued the episode had been a rip-off of Thornton Wilder's play. "Tell me you don't know 'Our Town' without telling me you don't know 'Our Town.'"
I know I'm all substantive and everything, but some days I'd just rather have Cole Walliser's job.
Low-hanging fruit. Who was the guest host?
Spread the word!
I guess they should have named it "Bored of Peace"?
I can say this because I write better than review bombers, and I couldn't have written it either. I've acted sometimes, but never as well as any of these actors. The use of Thornton Wilder's play was brilliant--I felt that I was discovering it all over again, right along with the cadets. 2 of 2
No one who ever trashed STARFLEET ACADEMY as a review bomber will ever write anything as good as Ep8, and they'll never act as well as the actors in this episode. (Note: I'm not trashing everyone who dislikes the show--just the people who are publicly dickish about it.) 1 of 2
Honoring the Starfleet Code.
Talk about coincidence! Guess who's being polled to be a Nielsen viewer! Yeah, it's me. Maybe I'll get to fill out the survey to say that I watch each episode of STARFLEET ACADEMY and DISCOVERY at least three times!
We can reasonably infer from interacting with them that LLMs donβt care whether theyβre factually correct or not. Maybe itβs another thing they learned from absorbing content from the internet.
You did not offend. I thought you might find it amusing that I knew about the speech-act philosophers. Itβs not exactly a common interest.
I understand. I just sometimes feel the need to underscore that my range of interests is β¦ quirkily broad.
Iβm familiar with (e.g.) the work of J.L. Austin and John Searle, thanks. So I know about how to do things with words and speech acts. On the other hand, I tell more jokes than Searle ever did. (Austin, OTOH, may have been funnier than me.)
Godβs experiment with Creation was to create beings that were like Him except for a central exception, which is that for us there is a difference between speech and action. For Him theyβre the same. We often indulge in the fantasy that this is true for us too.
I approve of this message.
Joseph and Mary tried to check in at the inn, but the clerk said they had no rooms. Mary insisted they had a reservation and that she and Joseph wanted to see the clerk's boss. The clerk was immediately responsive. Sadly, though, he'd misheard her, and he guided them to the manger.
If the jacket had been made from horsehide, maybe it would have qualified as "oat couture."
I keep talking about the SAVE act because its clearly a voter disenfranchisement bill.
And I focus a lot on how it will impact women who have been married because thats the largest demographic that is being targeted
And the pushback from republican men is wild af
Nus Braka is the most purely, blackheartedly evil Star Trek villain since Khan. The proof? He interrupts his villainous monologue to indulge in his obsession with making Captain Ake sit upright in a straight-back chair.
Let me know when you observe the universeβs entropy in your lava lamp, and Iβll contact the emergency and rescue teams.
It was never about undocumented immigrants and it was certainly not about immigrants committing crimes. The goal from the start was to repeal Reconstruction, and at no point did they try to hide that.
Thatβs an open thermodynamic system, because you can plug it in.
