How to decommission gas networks one of the biggest challenges facing gas-reliant countries.

Compelling examples are few & far between.

So, I'm pleased that Ivan-Petar Yovchev highlights steps taken by Denmark.

Steps to slash power prices In today’s episode of The Jolt, Kira looks into how Europe could cut its electricity bills, plus pushback on sustainability reporting as the United Nations calls for stronger ESG in mining

A couple of weeks ago @kirataylor.bsky.social of @foresight-ce.bsky.social got in touch to talk about #MakingElectricityCheaper

She had good questions: how do we make electricity cheaper? what can we do in short & long term? what more do we need from the EU?

We need to 'Make Electricity Cheaper' in Europe.

That doesn't just mean subsidising prices.

➡️ We must Reduce the cost of ⚡ by driving down system and policy costs.
➡️ Allocate costs between: tax & bill payers; user groups; different types of use; present & future bill payers.

Thank you. Rebalancing gives a stronger price signal for electrification, the challenge is to avoid overburdening ppl stuck on gas.
We didn't address standing charges cos they don't work the same in each country. Fixed costs do mask efficiency & flex signals, & burden people using less electricity.

I didn’t say Europe has leadership in electrification. In fact I made the point that only 3-4% of industrial process heat is electrified. But I did say that Europe has technology development leadership and large share of exports in some clean tech.

5. Economics of electrification still needs help. Making electricity cheaper for strategic sectors is vital. Govts can reduce taxes and policy costs added to ⚡prices to send an immediate investment signal - this is illustrated by RAP colleagues @soxenaar.bsky.social & Tom Butler in upcoming work 👀

RIP first come, first served The lack of power grid capacity is evolving to be one of the key barriers in the energy transition. Here is look at many options to tackle grid scarcity.

3. Grid access can prevent electrification say some industry players. This is a very real issue in some places but not everywhere. We can make better use of grids and create ‘priority lanes’ in grid queues to help sites get access faster. More from Zsuzsa Pato tinyurl.com/3kamcd3r

2. Electrification presents a huge opportunity for Europe. Only 3-4% of process heat is electrified. There's massive potential for European industry to decarbonise and support European clean tech. Electrified heat technologies are where Europe has leadership and a growing share of exports.
