Thanks, I'll hopefully get across there later this year to see them. They're never stuck for work, there is almost full employment there. It's accommodation for folk that want to live & work there that is the big issue.
Agreed, I'll need to look up which local authorities have implemented it. They actually got the house at a reduced price as the owner was in a hurry to sell. They were surprised at this having been outbid on previous attempts to buy.

They originally fancied living on Skye but due to Air bnbs etc it was just impossible to get anything they could afford. They did get a rental on Lewis for about 20 months before having a bid on accepted on a holiday home, it lay empty when the owner wasn't there. They actually got it at a ....

My niece moved to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides 3 years ago. She had to rent because she couldn't afford to buy due to cash rich Southerners buying up houses that came to market. The Scottish Government bought in a 200% increase on Council Tax on 2nd homes. They now own an ex-holiday home!
