I'm a researcher primarily in adaptation. We are not even adapted to where the climate is today.
If you think you can seawall your way through a 4Β°C planet, you are straight up dreaming.
Mitigation AND adaptation, or you end up with way more of option 3 for dealing with climate change: suffering.

The most achingly beautiful explanation of what science is, from @edyong209.bsky.social: βthe idea that much of the world is hidden from us, that we donβt perceive it and donβt understand it, and that it is worth understanding and it is necessary to understand.β

Story about a US history class. Teacher asks who discovered America and students answer Columbus. Teacher asks "Right. So who did he find when he came here?" Students answer Indians but can't name the tribe. Teacher tells them Taìnos. Then asks "How do we explain that? We all know the name of the man who came here from Europe, but none of us knows the name of the people who were here first ... Why haven't ypu heard of them? This ignorance is an artifact of historical silencing - rendering invisible the lives and stories of entire peoples."
