Mark my words, without the e2ee definition, SB1516 provides very little protection for Oregonians’ data. ALPR vendors will try to implement encryption-at-rest plus encryption-in-transit and call it #e2ee.

This morning I was talking to 2 Reps when lobbyist Kevin Campbell walked up. He spoke falsely about the #E2EE definition I wrote. I said it wasn't true, got called emotional. I was literally accused of "being too emotional" over encryption. Fine. Vote for me because I care so deeply about security.

Flock sent a rep to this livestream today. The hosts pinned some of my comments. This liar said they never gave data to ICE. I reminded them of their "pilot program". He also claimed the cameras "aren't hackable". Eyes Off Eugene and others like @bennjordan.bsky.social repeatedly disproved that.

Oregon is trying to legislate requiring #alpr vendors to use end-to-end encryption, but they took the definition of #e2ee out of the bill. How do you plan on enforcing that? Corporations have been trying for years to say that encryption at rest plus encryption in transit is the same as e2ee. Lies.

Good thing those aren't our only 2 options.

ICE is a post-9/11 invention. Abolishing it would be fine. It's an unnecessary and damaging institution with no historic positive value. We can enforce customs issues with a different entity.

Now that I've seen lobbying up close and in person, let me explain how it's nothing like what you thought.
