Funnily enough the hard part ended up being drawing nao! She's still very reserved at that point in time and is barely starting to open up so i kept thinking i needed to make her expressions softer, more subtle, not to exaggerate... it's the opposite of what i usually do and it was a real struggle
I kept putting it off because i felt it was above my skill level for some reason, even though the end result ended up being 90% simple close-up shots of their faces 😂 i probably could have done it back then, but i'm happy with how it looks now so maybe it was a good thing i waited
Sorry i keep reposting that comic but i'm just very happy with how it came out ☺️ it took a long time to finish but i've also had that particular scene in mind for over two years (i have sketches trying to get the expressions down dating from dec 2023!!) and it's so nice seeing it finally come alive
A wolgraha comic taking place during the CT era, with my wol Nao, a female raen. Papers are strewn about a table. G’raha is flipping through the pages of a document with a pout, his tail swishing impatiently behind him. He throws his head back. “Ugh, it’s useless, I can’t focus anymore!” Nao doesn’t lift her eyes from the document she’s reading, simply smiles. “And here I thought reading was your whole job.” He turns towards her, annoyed. “I’m a scholar! My job is to research, to study! Not read…” he flips back to the first page to try and recall what he was reading. “…labyrinth inventory n°3-1-b…” “We’ve been at it for hours and you didn’t know the title?” He points accusingly at her. “It proves my point, doesn’t it? Stop trying to pretend you aren’t bored to death right now.” She closes her eyes, looking calm and unperturbed by his questioning. “I’m not. I’m a merchant’s daughter, I’m used to task such as these.” He rests his head in his hand, unimpressed. “Hmm…”
“My bad, I suppose I must have imagined the restless legs under the table.” He says smugly. She freezes, colour rising to her cheeks. When she turns to glare at him, he looks away whistling, falsely innocent. She sighs, admitting defeat. “Fine,” she taps her files against his shoulder as a happy smile forms on his lips. “Rowena’s café has a tea time around this hour. My treat. She rises. “On one condition.” “Oh?” He asks, intrigued.
She opens the flap of the tent. Sunlight pours in, colouring her in sunshine. “You’ll have to beat me there.” He stares at her smile, blushing. Then her words catch up to him. “Huh?” He rises as well. “H-hey! Wait!” He’s rushing out of the tent, but she’s already running ahead, obviously mischievous, though he can’t see her pleased expression. “NAO!” He shouts, flustered.
She’s running ahead, confident in her victory while he does his best to catch up to her but is obviously struggling. The last panel is two chibis. G’raha is exhausted, bent forward and trying to catch his breath. “How…are you… so fast?!” Nao looks at him, seemingly no worse for the wear despite their race. “You should train more.” He lost.
