Putting together my Halloween games. Shadowdark Friday and Daggerheart on Saturday. It's going to be a highly lethal weekend-- shooting for TPKs and I'm so excited! Even as a proGM I've never had a TPK. Going straight for the kill this weekend. Wish me luck
Impostor syndrome is hugely common in the ttRPG industry.
One major contributing factor is a sense that if you were a REAL professional you could afford a house, health insurance, a retirement account, and occasional vacations, but that's not true for 99.9% of ttRPG professionals.

An FLGS doesn't just get my money and support because they're a small brick and mortar shop. If the place smells like a gym bag, are generally just rude, only carries D&D, or refuses to let RPGs play because TCGs/Warhammer bring in more cash, why would I just throw money at them?
Finally left the hellscape app and am in need of friends please! Moot hunting...

There's such a betrayal when a cookie *looks* good, but then it tastes... bad? Like, why did you do this to me? Why did you let down all the cookies of the world?
Tonight my son said that his brain is nothing but a raw chicken breast floating around in a hollow orb.
Now I can't stop thinking about a necromancer that replaces skeleton brains with raw chicken breasts.

NEW β Santa Larry marks his 5th year spreading holiday cheer across Chicago, all while redefining what it means to be Santa Claus.
β[Black] childrenβ¦ theyβre not expecting to see me. When they do, they freak out. They say, βOh my God, Santa Claus, you look like me.ββ

Thank you! MotW is near the top of my list.
How accessible is it for someone who has never run PbtA? I've been wanting to get into that system for some time. Should I pick up something else with it?
Morimoto's restaurant is fantastic. Also Eggs 'n Things for breakfast.
One of my favorite things was canoe sailing. We went out to this beach where seals come out of the water to rest and the island was fun to explore.
My family loved parasailing; I didn't do it. I don't recommend the helicopter tour; it was just looking at a lot of trees and water from too far away in a really noisy machine where you couldn't talk to each other.
We saw Jurassic Park and Star Wars sets, as well as the sets for Gilligan's Island and 50 First Dates. Those were the ones I remember, but there were more.
Part of the tour takes you out in the ocean on a boat, which was nice and relaxing.
If you like movies, Kualoa Ranch is a good stop. It's this huge piece of land where a lot of famous movies were made, and a tour takes you past the sets where you can still see the big props and set pieces.
For cultural experiences, my top choices are the Iolani Palace and the Polynesian Cultural Center.
There's Pearl Harbor, which is important ofc but I didn't find it interesting. My father loves it, so ymmv.
My husband and daughter hiked Diamond Head Mtn and still rave about it.
So it really depends on how active you are, and how interested you are in seeing the culture and history of Hawaii.
My parents lived on Oahu for a few years, so I've been there twice. We didn't island hop, so I can't tell you about the other islands.
Hawaii is great!
I'm falling asleep. If I don't remember to reply tomorrow, feel free to nudge me. I'll get you some recommendations.
But I also don't want to give up the only chance I have for in-person D&D and to enjoy everyone's company.
Boo.
But I think now I need to decide between talking to the DM and just walking away. The problem is that I joined this group nearly 9 months after it formed, and clearly the DM's style is acceptable for everyone else. I don't want to insist that everyone else change for me.
Late night musings:
Tonight I came home from another DM's game sad and disappointed. This is not the first time; in fact, I've rarely enjoyed this game.
I haven't quit because it's a chance to see my 19yr old daughter every week, and I genuinely like the people.

Oof. Tonight's session was rough. 3 new players, and their first impression was a massive internet outage at my house. So now I'm refunding them for lost time. Plus someone died after rolling 1 on a death save. Now I just want to crawl into bed and try to forget it never happened.

Improv is absolutely important. Which do you think is harder to master?
I recently heard another DM say that the single most important skill for a Dungeon Master to learn is PACING. What do you think? Is it still the case for a Pro DM, or are there other more important skills?

I think they also keep a record of each char at every level and use collections to keep the levels of each together. I don't keep track of my player's characters with that much granularity (I don't use hardly any of her l their PC template) so don't use collections for chars.
They suggest to use collections to keep sessions for the same campaign together, when you might run several campaigns in the same world. I found it simpler to add a party relation on the sessions db, and use collections to keep sessions of different adventures together.
Today my sweet middle child turned 20. She lives close enough to see her often, and we still have a close relationship.
This is a blessing I do not deserve, but am incredibly grateful for.
A little tip - this isn't for developers, we all know this... but fans?
When a developer you claim to really like and respects makes a post about their game being on sale?
It's not the time they want to hear your personal hang-ups on why you hate their game... it's not. You can just not post.
