That sucks. It does happen when new writers are too grateful for any attention.

I made that mistake. I was insecure and too enthralled with being at a place in my fiction writing that 'a real editor' was editing my novel. I agreed to her opinion on something that made my novel quintessentially Canadian. And now in the 2nd book in the series, it doesn't have the follow through.

I like the way you daydream.

Back in the day, when I was ghostwriting for a non-fiction blog, on dreadline day, I would read the post, then immediately go for a good walk to work off my jitters & process any concerns that might have popped up during the near-final read-through.

I endeavor to limit my use of adverbs to dialogue.

#AmWriting (and loving it). When I wrote to deadlines, I took my work seriously. As I should as I was being paid to produce. But when I started writing fiction I stopped taking my writing seriously. No longer.

The thing about writing is one has to write, which requires us to spend an inordinate amount of time in our offices or wherever we work. My family needs to grasp this concept. It's only been three decades! ARG.

As a former ghostwriter of four books, one of which was a national bestseller for many years in Canada, and a ghostblogger that saw blog go from 700 visitors a month to 10,000+ over seven years, I feel much the same way. I stupidly undervalued myself.

You can challenge your own writing brain by switching from keyboard to pen at any time to explore how your own writing alters based on your method. Hand writing bends more toward art in practice and may change how you visualize your words in your head.
