Come check out my AGU talk tomorrow at 4:15pm (350-351) on our rhyolite-MELTS modeling which illustrates highly efficient crystallization directly from basalt to rhyolite fueled recent volcanism at CΓ³rdon Caulle.

It’s a good day for exploring some wacky BSE zoning textures in feldspar.

In one step: Insights into shallow differentiation from basalt to rhyolite at CordΓ³n Caulle from rhyolite-MELTS simulations Magma mush systems are commonly invoked as the source from which crystal-melt segregation produces rhyolites, but these systems are rarely observed. T…

New paper out! πŸŒ‹ We used rhyolite-MELTS in some unconventional ways on the spectacular CordΓ³n Caulle system and learned that it is feasible that these rhyolites fractionated directly from a basaltic mush. Was such a fun project with great people.
