Ian Huntley death: the summer we watched a senseless tragedy unfold in Soham How the desperate search for two missing girls in 2002 and their now-dead killer claimed its place in the country’s museum of appalling crimes

Ian Huntley has died after being attacked in prison.

There’s questions to ask but right now, let the media focus on his victims: 10 year old best friends Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, and their parents and siblings who must still endure a lifetime of grief. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Energy insecurity. Higher bills. Exposure to catastrophic economic consequences of Trump's wars.

That's what happens when you fail to shift fast enough to renewables, and cut back on support for clean energy.

Let's cut bills & create jobs through a clean power revolution.

How the right-wing British press became Trump’s trumpet Churchill would be appalled by the kinds of things Donald Trump says and does. But Fleet Street is happy to ignore history for the sake of some political point-scoring, writes Alan Rusbridger

β€œYou’d think he’d be busy monitoring the wildfire consequences of the war he’d just started. But, no, he entertained himself by slagging off the British leader to any British journalist who’d listen.”

And they did more than listen. They disgraced themselves.

We are well into the overthrowing of the system and full erosion of civil liberties and human rights. Very little sustained pushback and disruption from the masses.

Under Reform, Shabana β€˜the Coconut’ Mahmood from Labour, this family would be deported. In the US, one of them would be shot dead, and the remaining detained….. Do you see how fucked up this World really is??? Do I really need to name this family? 🀬🀬

How democratic is the UK? The UK has a crisis of democracy

UK democracy in action

The state unable/unwilling to provide people with clean water, timely healthcare, social care, decent housing, pension, affordable education, energy, decent roads.

Corporate profits guaranteed through PFI, privatisations, outsourcing, subsidies, regulatory inaction.

Damning verdict on social care as peer says system needs a 'reckoning' Baroness Louise Casey has been tasked with leading an independent probe into social care, to pave the way for the 'National Care Service' that Labour promised in its manifesto

Damning verdict on England social care as peer says system needs a 'reckoning'.

22 major reviews over 3 decades. Govts do nothing.

No integrated healthcare system. Social care privatised. Corporations profiteering. Public money buys less. Govt handing the NHS to them as well

End privatisation.

Did you?

Neoliberals moan about rise in minimum wage. Govts preach pay restraint to workers. Silence on profiteering, hikes in exec pay/perks, dividends, share buybacks.

The state devoted to welfare of the super rich.

Billionaire brothers who backed Tories give Reform Β£100k
Oliver Wright

Extracts

Britain's
second-richest family have
begun giving money to Reform UK after years of supporting the Conservatives.
A company linked to the property tycoons David and Simon Reuben donated Β£100,000 to Nigel Farage's party the first time the brothers have given to any party other than the Tories.
Reform has also received Β£3 million from Christopher Harborne, 63, an entrepreneur who now lives in Thai-land, adding to the ty million he gave in August. At the time, that was the biggest single donation to a UK political party by a living donor.
In the last quarter of last year, Reform received more than Β£5.4 million in do-nations, the Conservatives were given Β£2.4 million and Labour received
Β£1.9 million.
The Reuben brothers - David, 87, and Simon, 84, who own property including Millbank Tower and Admiralty Arch in London β€” have donated almost El million to the Conservative Party since 2008. They also supported Boris Johnson after he left No 10, giving him office space worth Β£85,000. Their family wealth was put at Β£26.87 billion in The Sunday Times Rich List last year.
Reform UK has its headquarters in Millbank Tower, but it is not known whether the brothers donation linked to reduced rent payments.

Other Reform donors include David
John Grainger, the co-founder of a biotech firm, and Gary Dutton, a double glazing entrepreneur, who both gave the party Β£250,000.
Reform also received Β£100,000 from Isabel Goldsmith, sister of the former Tory minister Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park. Her father, Sir James Gold-smith, was seen as the godfather of British Euroscepticism.
For the second quarter in a row Lord Bamford, the chairman of JCB, gave Β£200,000 each to the Conservatives and Reform. At the time of his first do-nation, the company said he was "sup-portive of pro-business political parties that create the conditions for these businesses to grow and prosper".

More billionaire cash bankrolling Reform.
JCB’s chairman, Bamford, said he was β€œsupportive of pro-business political parties that create conditions for these businesses to grow and prosper."

Reform wants to repeal the Equality Act.
Prosperity for them means loss of rights and pay for us.

UK Gave Β£90k to Sexual Violence Report Central to Israel’s Genocide Propaganda Exclusive: The Foreign Office funded a sexual violence report subsequently used in a Β£33m Israeli campaign to whitewash its genocide in Gaza. Rivkah Brown reports.

Mindblowing story. The UK met most of the costs of a key propaganda tool used by the Israeli Government to launder its genocide in Gaza - then tried to cover up the fact it had done so.

David Lammy: "... because Cyprus is part of NATO"

erm, Cyprus is not a member of NATO. Maybe its just a slip of the tongue? Except he repeats the claim just a minute later

"... Cyprus is a NATO country"

Does the deputy PM not know that Cyprus isn't a member of a NATO?

Onwards and upwards with the Green Party. 215,000 members can’t be wrong. Let’s top Reform in membership and voting intention. Let’s consign Farage to history as the millionaire racist fraud he has always been and replace Labour as the party of choice for socialists.

Farage has nothing to offer but a return to the 1940s and 50s. No blacks, no Irish, no feminism, no human rights, no equality, no NHS, no climate mitigation, no secularism and no smoking ban. All the social progress this country had made would be squandered by electing this squalid little man.
