As a trade union, we advise workers along with those not in work who, for all kinds of reasons, are navigating this country’s complex and increasingly inadequate financial support system. It’s for this reason that we set up a Claimants’ Union Several of us support campaigns by groups such as Crips against Cuts and DPAC. We stand with those people, particularly in an era of growing austerity, with the rising cost of living and crackdowns on disability welfare meaning that many of us, through no fault of our own, are finding it difficult to make ends meet.
There are so many things you can scream at a fascist without engaging in classism and contributing to the demonisation of working people, including the working-class antifascists who we’re proud to stand with. Here are just a few alternatives – can you think of any more?

Chants like these are not aimed only at the fascists, even when thrown in their direction. Some on our own side are on benefits, and there is nothing morally wrong with that. Paying taxes, which in turn pay for benefits, does not make you morally superior to a fascist. Not being a fascist makes you morally superior to a fascist.
A similar point applies to chants about the fash having no GCSEs. We don’t all have the same level of education, or equality of opportunity, on our side. The thing that separates us from the fascists is the fact that they are fascists, while we are antifascists. That’s why we’re all here. We haven’t come to protest the concept of government benefits.

“We pay your benefits” – towards a more thoughtful approach while screaming at fascists
We’re not the chant police. It’s fairly standard to hear chants you disagree with from our side on counterdemos against the far right. The aim of this post is to provide some food for thought about the wider impact of chants like “We pay your benefits” when directed towards the fascists.

Why wear a mask? Harder for the cops to gather information + work out connections, prevents indentifiable photos circulating amongst far-rights communities online. Makes facial recognition technology less effective. Helps keep everyone safe. Even if you don't think being identifiable puts you at risk, creating a culture of protest anonymity minimises the isolation of individuals more likely to be targeted.
What is grey bloc? Grey bloc is a softer version of black bloc. Instead of wearing all black, protesters in grey bloc wear anonymous looking clothing such as rainwear, sportswear and a mask. It's a good idea to bring a change of hat and a jacket just in case you need to disappear.

We're asking for your help in raising money for legal costs for one of the Armstrong 2, "D.". D. is set to attend an initial court hearing in July following a protest at Rafael Advanced Defence Systems (Pearson Engineering Site) in Newcastle upon Tyne that took place in May. This factory, owned by the state of Israel, produces critical technology amongst other military items that are used by the IDF, who are committing genocide in Gaza. At the time of writing, 62,614 Palestinians have been killed in this genocide since October 2023. We believe that by slowing down production at these weapons factories, the Armstrong 2 have saved lives in Palestine and at the same time, helped to ensure that international laws are not broken here in the UK. D. is required to pay legal costs of nearly £1000 a month for 5 months. He's at an early stage in his career and would struggle to make these payments out of pocket. We're looking to raise £4.6k to cover this. Every contribution, no matter how small, will show how united we are in this struggle and all of it will go directly towards his legal aid. We have a strong Palestine solidarity movement in Newcastle - let's demonstrate this strength and the unwavering commitment we all share to ending the suffering in Gaza. Your generosity means everything to us. Get behind the Armstrong Two and help our friend with his legal fees as much as you can. No one should have to pay for taking action against genocide. With the proscription of Pal Action I want to say this is a dark time in our country's history but were the British Empire so it's only uniquely bad domestically.
You would think the government would learn what banning peaceful protest leads to but that's not the way the machine operates.
Northumbria IWW stands in unequivocal solidarity with Palestine Action and all actionists who have flung a spanner into the international war machine in the face of Israel's genocide of Palestinians. Ordinary people putting their liberty on the line to stop this genocide are not terrorists - they are our friends and comrades and we support them without any qualification. We will never condemn resistance to genocide. Taking direct action for Palestine is a selfless act, and the most effective way to dismantle the genocidal British war machine. In a press release the group said two activists broke in using electric scooters, and targeted the planes with crowbars, and red paint sprayed from repurposed fire extinguishers “symbolising Palestinian bloodshed”. Both activists appear to have made their escape.
