Can confirm that my recent New Zealand visit transited via Singapore not Los Angeles. Not worth the risk of being arbitrarily refused entry. And other countries don't force you to go through immigration if all you want to do is get back on the same plane after it's cleaned and refuelled.

I loathe Musk as much as anyone, but if Tesla can jumpstart the availability of V2H and battery-to-grid solutions, that could be equivalent to building six new Dinorwig pumped storage schemes.

Yep. Absolutely loathe Musk, and recently paid an extra Β£3k to get my solar/battery setup from someone else rather than accept the heavily-discounted Tesla offering. But if it prompts the UK market into taking V2H/V2G seriously, that could be the equivalent to six new Dinorwigs.

Nope. Iβve tried to set it up via Octopus, their website tells me that my Leaf can do it but only via a Quasar v1 charger, and Quasar tell me that the v1 isnβt actually available in the UK. V2G/V2H has been stuck at pilot stage for at least three years. Contrary info gratefully received.

Helpful quiz knowledge, thank you. Groucho Marx / Elvis Presley must have been a contender. And I always felt for old Jeffery Bernard, completely swamped in the Diana/Theresa tsunami.

It appears so. Although my actual vote will, in best LibDem tradition, likely to be tactical for Labour in order to stop Reform.

I am a LibDem member because I want a serious party developing policies rooted in fact. This kind of populist theatre is entirely likely to weaken my commitment to the party, particularly since my local Labour MP @chriscurtis94.bsky.social cares a lot about careful study of data.

In 2008, Anthony Jenkins stood in front of the leadership community at Barclays and told us it could be 10 years before society trusted bankers again. Howβs that looking, 18 years on?

Terry & June - Nick Parker
YouTube video by Nick Parker
I get very cross when YouTube follows the thing I've asked for by immediately moving onto something I didn't ask for. Except when it reminds me of this utterly lovely lyrical delight. Why isn't Nick Parker more famous?

I have seen posts today suggesting (1) that he is willing to brag about improving the environment (2) that he is considering who might succeed him in 2028, and I have to say that either of these things remotely matches my understanding of his mindset.

Yes. It's different for everyone and I'm glad that you could find a heat pump solution that worked. In principle I'm very much in favour. But there were several factors that meant that I couldn't get the sums to work for us.

I spent two months three companies six sales visits twenty Happy Heat Pump podcasts and numerous chats with friends working out which heat pump to buy, and ended up concluding that spending Β£20k to keep my bills roughly the same maybe wasn't the best use of money. But everyone else should get one.

I once dreamt I was being challenged to come up with a word that was four other words concatenated. I woke up, said βstandoffishnessβ, and went back to sleep.
(There are, of course, plenty of others. βConcatenatedβ is five if your Scrabble list allows ed.)

I once paid Ryanair Β£8.99 for a single to Dublin. The evidence of imminent international travel proved sufficient for the Passport Office to locate my long-overdue renewal application. But I would never, ever consider actually travelling with them.

David Benedictus had some kind of writer-in-residence role. He asked several literary friends come and read their books overnight at his home, and declared open house. He read A Twentieth Century Man, mostly forgotten now except by me. My favourite by far was Ian McEwan doing The Cement Garden.

The masterful line "Iβm like a one-eyed cat, peeping in the sea food store" was allowed to stay in when the rest of Shake, Rattle and Roll was sanitised, apparently because Bill Haley was blind in one eye and could therefore get away with it.
