The @asms.org Winter Conf on Microbial Sciences is nearly done, but not before a lovely day of skiing and happy faces @massspecmommy.bsky.social The 2027 Winter Conf in Santa Fe will be on lipids and lipidomics. Hopefully we'll get even more people on the slopes for fun in/on the snow! πΏ

Mass spec and skiing. Will @asms.org organize a ski meeting? ASMS members and Board members are checking it out in Santa Fe this week - L to R, @jyates.bsky.social, Roy Martin, Brian Clowers, fearless leader Jennifer Watson, me, Rachel Loo. What do you think? It won't be cheap, but it would be fun!β·οΈ

The Field and Franklin Award for Mass Spectrometry is back! Since 1985, this award has recognize outstanding achievement in the development or application of #massspec #teammassspec. Please submit nominations by November 14! Nomination details: acsanalytical.org/awards-resou...
I almost forgot about this "oldie but a goodie" paper published in 1994. It might be one of the first ones showing the use of variable-temperature ESI to measure the thermodynamics of non-covalent binding of a protein to a peptide (native MS). The first author was a young @goodlettlabb.bsky.social
Great meeting to get a "top-down" view of how mass spectrometry and microscopy can merge to "see" large biological molecules. Can't wait for the next version of MS + M, wherever and whenever it's held.

Hey, ASMSers @asms.org , did you see Jack Henion, our new Fenn Distinguished Contribution Awardee, on HBO's The Mortician tonight? He briefly talked about trying to detect a poison, oleandrin, from a corpse during his #ASMS2025 talk. You'll have to watch the show to find out whether he did or not.
Hereβs our tiny MALDI-8020 we installed earlier this year. Also the first Shimadzu MS in my life. So far, so good.
Yes, I believe international scientists can sign
Consider signing the letter to support NIH and the "Bethesda Declaration" (www.standupforscience.net/bethesda-dec...) #ASMS2025 @asms.org
I know what you mean, but when I was a kid, my favorite breakfast was ice cream on top of a Eggo waffle (that was before parents knew about teaching kids about nutrition). But I think I saw some Canadians diving for the ice cream #ASMS2025. Don't you like ice cream on your poutine?
Attendance was around 6080+ #asms2025, which is good, given the current circumstances. Despite last minute cancellations, we had many last minute registrations also. Overall, it felt like a βnormalβ @asms.org conference - lots of energy, lots of fun.
Hope everyone made it home safely after #ASMS2025. Thanks all for making it another fun conference. Planning for #ASMS2026 San Diego started at 7:30am this morning. Donβt forget to fill in the post-conf survey when you get it. More ice cream and fruit? @asms.org
Fun last day session at #ASMS2025 organized by @lingjun2025.bsky.social on Fundamentals of Native MS. Hopefully for #ASMS2026 weβll start a tradition of a final toast after the last Thursday PM oral sessions.
Oh, ohβ¦β¦
OMG! Thatβs probably me. Good eye! #ASMS2025
I wonder how many ASMSers are at the ball game today (Sunday). Raise your hand if you're cheering on the Orioles! And don't forget to come back for the tutorials, opening plenary, and evening reception. #ASMS2025
Fun project to be a part ofβ¦.cryoEM combined with native MS and native top-down MS helps to elucidate the function of this protein complex
The longer version of my comments can be found here: theanalyticalscientist.com/issues/2025/... I encourage all to remain engaged with the science enterprise. Come to the upcoming ASMS conference to engage fully in our shared scientific pursuits. @asms.org
Interested in learning #TopDownProteomics, join us for a @asms.org Short Course on Top-Down Proteomics! Had a very successful course over the past 3 years, and excited to offer it again this year. Donβt miss out β register early! Early registration ends April 30. www.asms.org/conferences/...
Does the $1 cotton come with the Astral, or is that a separate part number? Neat trick - cotton-HILIC SPE.
Looked like a great Los Angeles Area Mass Spectrometry Discussion group meeting. I was hoping to make it, but the traffic driving up from the ACS San Diego conference was too much. Hopefully, Amgen can host again soon.
What could be better than Hawaii in December? Dive into some exciting discussions on top-down proteomics and proteoform analysis at Pacifichem 2025 for the session #ANA016. Abstract submissions are still open until April 2! @proteoforms.bsky.social @nlkproteomics.bsky.social @jyates.bsky.social

Last week was busy for the ASMS Board, meeting in Santa Fe to plan for the 2025 ASMS annual conf in Baltimore. After 3-days, we were looking pretty tired and grumpy (left), but the thought of #ASMS2025 cheered us up (right). Check out the Asilomar, Winter conf, and Fall Workshop topics @asms.org.
Happy holidays from the Loo group at UCLA. It's been an eventful year - some people leaving (graduating, making tons of $$), and new students joining. Next year promises to be equally busy and fun. "Nothin' but blue skies from now on...". Wishing all a peaceful 2025.
