I guess we now live in a world where striking hospitals and healthcare has ceased to be surprising.
Well it remains shocking.

Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.
No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.
Worth a watch.

UK Labour's climate policy has (in many ways) been far more in line with what's needed*.
But then policies like this call any good intentions into question.

Coming out. Alcohol dependence. Grief.
Subjects that affect so many, but which academia struggles to discuss.

it takes a peculiar perspective to be the United States of America and still portray yourself as always the victim, never the perpetrator
tbf lots of people said it could (and must!) happen
and... some people still claim it's impossible and must never happen.
no big deal.
just that thing that everyone said couldn't happen... just... quietly... happening...
You cannot talk like this about any other minority in America.
And if it was any other presidentβs adviser who said something like this about any other minority, itβd be the instant end of their presidency.
Every single detail of this story is heartbreaking.
Every single aspect of this system seems designed to inflict suffering on the vulnerable.

NEW report out today: I dig deep into how big tech has been muddling tech types and overstating evidence to claim "AI" will make global emissions drop like a stone....
Not only will it not, it seems to be verifiably doing the opposite!!

wonder what this editorial decision could possibly be trying to imply about the green candidate (bottom right)

It's a profoundly weird take from Musk.
After all he's demonstrated he has children he evidently doesn't care for.
So what does that mean about his investment in our future?
then I'd say the one on the right too!
it very much depends on what it's being used for. the right hand one is certainly more neutral. but if you're trying to convey a certain feeling (warmth, cosiness, intimacy) the left achieves that better imo.
Literally cannot stress enough that if I, a climate scientist, were running a scam it would be a lot more fun than this
Absolutely incredibly news from the world's largest emitter. The tide really might be beginning to turn on fossil fuels.
The academic world can centre around drinking.
So why are academics so silent when it comes to alcohol dependence?

I hear that. but then mock the contradiction of her immigration story and her complicity on abuses on immigrants.
but simply mocking her accent without elaboration (as I've seen done multiple times at this point) promotes nothing but more xenophobia.
Don't get me wrong. Mock and critique away: There's so much she's responsible for and complicit in.
But not like this.
Why do people mocking Melania feel the need to mock her accent?
Call me crazy, but maybe mocking someone for being a non-native English speaker isn't what we oughta be doing right now?
