πŸ”” A gentle reminder to those who would like to make a submission for the ISRE dissertation award!

Just a few weeks to the deadline: April 1!

We find that children from low-SES backgrounds are viewed as more hardworking than smart -- as "strivers." Children's stereotypes on this topic are correlated with their parents'. πŸ‘‡

Believe in your work. Stop ending papers with β€œMore research is needed” and start concluding with β€œNo more research on this topic is needed.”

We have to file and/or pay taxes every year regardless of where we live in the world to be treated like this

These are indeed interesting questions! Some of the SPSP mentor lunches back in the day with "high profile" profs were...interesting. But, at least at the time, it seemed like most people wrote off their (elitist & rude) behavior because they were well known. I can't imagine that flying today.

I agree that this dynamic makes me happy. But I must say, one of my most exciting conference memories as a student was witnessing 2 professors yelling at each other after a talk bc their advisors (neither of whom were in the room) had some longstanding beef that trickled into the next generation lol

Excited that our symposium, Contextualizing Emotion Regulation Variability, was accepted at APS! Organized by my wonderful friend, Helen Uusberg, you'll hear some exciting talks from myself, Jonas Everaert, Danfei Hu, and Maria KrajuΕ‘kina on some of the most cutting edge topics in this space β˜€οΈβ˜€οΈ

I was recently thinking that I've yet to meet a pet named James, despite knowing several with other human names (e.g., Owen, Steve). It makes me so happy to see this adorable guy with such an amusingly human name 😍

By mess I mean: It seems like psyarxiv now gives individual DOIs for pre-print updates. So the originals will still exist and get separately indexed (e.g., researchgate treats them as individual papers). If you update & post a combined one, that's now 5 separate versions for the same paper.

I think in this case I would post a preprint combining the two and mention it somewhere in the title (e.g., this paper combines studies from X & X w/links). Or you could also withdraw the ogs & give the reason. I wouldn't update them if you used psyarxiv because that would cause a mess.

🚨 New paper! Think of a place you feel deeply attached to. When you're in that place, do you feel like your life is more meaningful? New work from @ashleykrause.bsky.social suggests you probably do!

Just accepted at Journal of Environmental Psychology, we find places can give our life meaning 🧡

This is so cool! Do you happen to have a pre-print somewhere? This is super relevant to some people in my institute.

I will also be attending the EASP small group meeting, "Beyond the Blur of Self-Regulation Research" in Graz, Austria right after APS. It makes me so happy that there are so many exciting events focused on advancing self-regulation theory!

I’m a little bit surprised. The curling controversy is all over parts of tiktok 🀣

I also learned that Norway often has some funky pants that went away and apparently made a come back this year.
