Credit to my “dumb” First Alert smoke alarms which went off when there was actual smoke in the house.
A big fat Bronx cheer to the Google Nest alarms for apparently sleeping through the event.
Great for telling me I’ve burnt toast.
Actual potential fire? Not so much.
They will be replaced shortly.
So, my washing machine tried to kill me overnight.
Something seized, motor? Don’t know. Filled basement with smoke. Nothing like having a smoke alarm go off and you think “that fucking battery” and then a second alarm went off.
No actual fire. Stayed awake to ensure machine cooled down.
One of those mornings when I want to go back to the timeline where Aaliyah had a better pilot who could do math.
I had a plan for the day.
I really did.
How is it 1:43 already?
Seize the means of corruption.
Yeah, I don’t know what that would actually mean either but it seemed very witty and I have nothing else to quip about in the midst of the ongoing horrors.
Because I am an old dinosaur, I spent about an hour rewriting a php script to do the thing I wanted it to do, instead of paying to spend an hour arguing with an inanimate obsequious state diagram.
Gutted my LinkedIn profile. There was something oddly pleasing about doing so. In 20+ years of being on LinkedIn it never lead to a single genuine job opportunity.
Many people talking about how gasoline prices at the pump have already jumped. But what should really terrify Republicans is RBOB — the futures price on wholesale gasoline. This is up 75 cents a gallon since its low earlier this year.
BREAKING: New York City reports the lowest levels of shootings, shooting victims, and murders ever recorded for the first two months of a year. Major crime is down nearly 8% citywide, burglary hit a record low, and retail theft dropped 25%
I barely understand enough atproto to set up my own DNS/.well-known records but when I look up your "PLC" at plc.directory, it seemed to imply your entry should be at://ewindisch.ontological.observer but there's no _atproto.ewindisch.ontological.observer TXT record (there's one for just ewindisch…)
Blocking larger and larger swaths of Azure, AWS, and GCP address ranges. Blocking all Digital Ocean address ranges.
I know giving away cloud access to script kiddies doesn't have an apparent cost to you but I’m getting tired of burning server bandwidth to send them 404 and 403s.
While I understand how time works, generally, it seems unreal that I have domains expiring in the 2030s. It was only yesterday when I would fax NIC updates to Network Solutions.
Truly the stupidest fucking timeline driven by “manly men” and the idiots who support them.
Took a Covid test because my slow 1960s model brain took awhile to run pattern recognition on the cough I’ve developed over the past day.
Apparently it’s not Covid, or not a Covid caught by this test.
Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
MAKE AN EMERGENCY DONATION to Trans Continental Pipeline right now.
They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate there and they are overwhelmed with requests. CO borders KS, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.
GO DONATE.

Abolish the legal gender marker entirely. No government can be trusted to have a database of which people have changed theirs, no government has any business tracking what your gender is "supposed" to be in the first place.
Hey, before you reply, I’ve been chronically online since the 1980s and battling network configurations from SNA to Watstar to TCP/IP and some forgotten others. I'm mostly venting.
Utterly baffled as to why it’s so difficult for my routers to maintain IPv6 connectivity. The slightest burp from the ISP and the IPv6 addresses drop and it can take multiple reboots or ifconfigs down and up to get IPv6 connectivity restored. Verizon seems outright hostile to v6.
I had a brain fart over the week of travel that I need to find a better way to articulate: after 75 post war years of “free trade” and migration, the Western world has targeted and restricted the movement (free or otherwise) of labor and the labor class. I don’t really know what to make of that.
As to why my long deceased dog had an Apple Id, I believe she set it up so she could use FaceTime. She was kind of an odd dog. Smart. But odd.
Decided it was easiest to just delete the Apple account, but this required “recovering” the Apple account, resetting a bunch of bits, and then going to privacy.apple.com to delete the account (which is not at all obvious on appleid.apple.com).
Some idiot is attempting to reset the extremely late @frisket.org’s Apple account. I don’t remember why my Golden Retriever had an Apple account. But whoever is trying to reset the password, Frisket laughs at you heartily from the Great Beyond.

Finally, after a decade plus of wearing suspenders with metal buckle things, I clued in that if I know I’m flying to just not put them on the morning of the flight and pack them in my backpack for after security.
I’m fucking slow but eventually I learn.
My wander around Madrid petered out after an hour. Kind of want dinner now but it’s way too early.
8:20 pm Ed thinks 4:00 pm Ed was smart to check the carry on on an oversold flight but now wants 4:00 pm Ed to figure out where the bag is at Barajas so 8:22 pm Ed can go to the hotel and sleep.
Doesn’t Adobe need a Benelux development office?
