Story on The Australian front page: Israel’s deadliest day: Nine die in public shelter in Beit Shemesh struck by Iranian missile Volunteer medic Ronit Elimelech rushed her elderly mother and three children to the shelter as sirens wailed, instinctively grabbing her vest and the medical equipment she’d used to save countless lives. It wasn’t enough to save her own.
All civilian deaths are tragic, but we're getting a real sense of whose lives are valued more.
If The Australian had run this story for Gaza it would have had to do it more than 8,000 times.
Never mind one for the around 150 children killed in a Tehran school just this week...
Started listening to the @triploi.bsky.social podcast. Great stuff! Well, that is if you're interested in learning about history. Hearing the awful realities of the capitalist/colonial project is very grim.
Alrighty, no reading religious texts!
Also, if we're not to read Homer how will people know to complain that actors are the wrong colour?
It begins.
Billions more of our public money going in to aligning ourselves even more with AUKUS and Trump - all to defend ourselves against our largest trading partner.

Legend! More of this, please.
I agree. The rallys in Melbourne on Monday and Thursday weren't nearly as large as they could have been. I live in hope though, if only for my own and my family's mental well-being.
When people take a stand, or even kneel down and pray, against genocide the cops beat the shit out of them and corporate media tells everyone they maybe deserved it.
The tipping point must be coming soon, but most of us in the West (including myself) are still too comfortable to take real action. Particularly after witnessing what happens to those who do.
ICE wouldn't need to lock him up as he'd likely already have been killed by thermobaric munitions dropped on his home or school or hospital.
Good lord! That's your response to dead children, "At least we're not a feudal monarchy!"
I will finish here else this conversation will last til the end of
the universe.
You cannot be unaware that the reason why other countries cannot do such things is directly attributable to American politics.
"It's ok if the government poisons my neighbours and kills my children because I can take them to court later. It's the American way."
I dunno, this crisis took over 11 years to resolve and seemed to be caused and exacerbated by American politics.
That there had to be a public outcry and legal challenge to stop more children being poisoned and dying is not the favourable argument you think it is.
Is Flint, Michigan in the US?
Examining the bodies returned to their people after the most recent so-called ceasefire, Palestinian doctors noted that, in some bodies “the rib cage and ribs were clipped with a sharp saw—a medical saw, a bone saw—and the sternum, along with the central part of the ribs, [were] lifted to allow for the removal of the heart and lungs without damage to the organ being taken.” Organ procurement, with few exceptions like skin and cornea, requires that the body be either alive—via brain death—or just-dead—via circulatory death. It is plausible that some Palestinian prisoners’ torture led to brain death. It is also possible their torturers felt no need to wait. Palestinian witnesses have reported that some prisoners were alive at the time they were taken for organ extraction. In one batch of bodies, the organs removed were those commonly transplanted: heart, liver, lungs. The transplant surgeon waits for a person to die; the soldier can’t. The settler surgeon wields his mastery over the body to serve the state. Here, the surgeon acts as—is—a soldier.

I'm honestly speechless.

@amyremeikis.bsky.social on how 'social cohesion' relies on "dissenters accepting implications, criticisms and abuse that has become so normalised, it barely raises an eyebrow."

“Four of my children just evaporated,” Badran said, holding back tears. “I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?”
There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.
Shame on those people who filmed the cops violently assault unarmed, kneeling people at prayer. How dare they use evidence of state violence as, um, evidence of state violence.
